[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello friends of TrekLens,

Its been quite a joyful first few days back at work. But today especially, I experienced two extra jolly ones. First of all, there's this test that I have been sitting for, for the past couple of years, which I never scored the required marks, which was very disappointing. Well, the results were out today and I scored!! haha

Secondly, which was even jollier, there is this pupil of mine who has learning problems and since the school is in a rural area, and the boy is not from a well-off family, he is here instead of being in a special school. You see, he doesn't talk. Not that he can't, but he doesn't. Not a single word. When I asked questions, all he ever did was a simple nod and he never even want to look at you in the eyes. He chose to be isolated in the classroom and even outside the classroom. He hardly want to do any written work at all. Poor little Imran (his name). He never even smile. No one ever seen him smile in class. I always greet him with a cheerful hello and constantly asking how he was, even though I know he would never answer me - everyday! I'm partially in tears writing this, just thinking about him.

But today, a sort of a little miracle happened. I was sitting beside him asking him silly questions like what food does he like, and does he ride a bike, just to get a respond, like I usually do - until I asked him whether he has cats. He gave one of his simple little nod. And when I asked how many cats - he lifted his little hands and showed me 3 fingers! He actually did. And he never ever give any hand gestures before - not to anyone. And he was even smiling! Even his classmates were impressed, saying "wahhh! Imran is getting clever!" I was so happy today that I was smiling away while walking at work.

This is a shot taken this evening at the backyard. The stem tilted over to one side after the heavy rain, holding on - but I think it still look good. To my dear Imran, its a great big world out there, but I know you're so strong. Hope you're holding on to that wonderful smile for me...

Thanks for viewing.

Hello Sharina,
I like the composition, and the colour palette makes the subject an eye-catcher as red stands out so well on green background!
Sharp fine details in the plant, good 3-D effect!
Greetings,
Pablo -

hello Sharina

Very touching Note you wrote for your student. And judging from your earlier post from hospital, you have a fine soft hand, probably one can guess your age too from it. I can see that you will do well in photography, in giving your feelings to what you see through the lens. I dare say you have the right spirit to start positive thoughts in your posting.

This is a nice macro shot of red using f/4 and 1/30 with steady hand, producing good sharpness and DOF with a D40. Is that a VR lens? Very good sharpness and color contrast.

TFS, bill

Hello Sharina,

I hope you are feeling better after your hospital stay.

This is a great shot and the related story was very touching. I work with dyslexia and ADHD in children and so appreciate breakthroughs such as you described. All the best. Joni

Hello Sharinawati,
great clarity with nice blurred BG. Good exposition with simple subject. The green BG and red heliconia is a good combination.
But most of all the story told is very exciting and interesting.
Happy Teacher's Day.

Hello Sharina,

Beautiful shot, great contrast and richness, very nice colours and composition, nice sharpness and well captured,

Have a nice day,

Cheers,
Sweety

He will.
As long as he has a teacher or a someone, who wants to go out of her way to reach deeper into him. People like Imran lives in a world of their own beyond our understanding of its nature. But you don't need to know everything. You just need to reach deeper. For people like Imran, they are way too deep in within, to reach out to us. It is us outside, who has the mental rope and the capacity to go in or pull them out. Instead of just shouting on the outside, tempting them to come out as if they know how.

Keep looking beyond what you see and listen more with your heart Sharina. Beside improving your photography, it improves your empathy too.
And your expression.

Wassalam
Rabani

What a moving story, Imran probably is clever enough, how I hope this will be the start of more to come!!

Hi Sharina,

The light in this picture is as beautiful as the note.

hi Sharina,

Being natural complemetary colours the rich red looks very lovely against the green background.
