[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A white egret swooping low on the Lower Kinabatangan River in Sukau, Sandakan. Sukau or the Lower Kinabatangan is one of the 4 main haunts for wildlife photography. The other 3 are Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Danum Valley and Maliau Basin.

Going photography into any of these 4 reservations requires zoom or telephoto lens with a minimum of 200mm and reaching up to 600mm. The best times to go hunting for the wildlife is either in the early morning or later in the afternoon.

You have better luck with image stabilized lens or fixed aperture lens (f/2.8,f/4) and forget about your tripod unless you lie in wait somewhere near their tracks. In Sukau, the usual way would be slow cruising by the river on boat with electric motor. For land based tripod mounted shooting the wild life such as the Borneo Pygmy elephants, you would have to spend a few days in the leech infested jungle tracking them.

Shot taken with a 70-200mm / F4L with a 2x extender.

Assalamuallaikum Rabani,

Subject was very sharp captured. I realised from all your posting you are very particular with the quality. One thing I admire you is your shot angle always very nice/impressive/intersting. Exp...this posting. Great shot.
Well done!

Assalamualaikum Rabani. This is one excellent capture of cattle egret in flight with full spreading wings. What makes it more difficult to shoot is the white plumage flying low across the surface. I am amazed with the details and the extender utilized in this capture. I was rather hesitant with this add-on but I guess your USM/IS under capable hand is another factor here. Really good to capture one of this migratory bird in season. Well done and TFS.

PS: Are you in my village? Drop by and join me for sahur :-)

Hello, Rabani,
this is one of the most perfect bird photos I have ever seen. The light and contrast, the detail, the composition, bokeh, stop action - everything is just perfect. My greatest respect and congratulations,

hi Rabani

Amazing sharpness on the bird in flight and very well positioned in this compo. The ISO800 gives just a little noise.

The light on the bird is superb.

tfs, bill

Assalamualaikum bang,
[300D + (200m x 2x) + f/4] + burung egret sedang terbang + metering dewa-dewa + staring di belakang kamera = gambar hari raya!!!

Beautiful posture, nicely captured in adorable POV.

Assalamualaikum Rabani,
Great capture of the egret spreading its wings. Its been raining EVERY evening for the past couple of weeks. When we arrived home from taking a drive this evening, we saw a couple of egrets in our yard.
My youngest son got so excited and shouted "Look! Look!...Duck!"
....oh dear.

Best regards,
