The newly restored Grand Ballroom at Catherine Palace

The Catherine Palace (Russian: Екатерининский дворец) was the Rococo summer residence of the Russian tsars, located in the town of Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin), 25 km south-east of St. Petersburg, Russia.

The Great Hall, or the Light Gallery as it was called in the 18th century, is a formal apartment in the Russian baroque style designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli between 1752 and 1756. The Great Hall was intended for more important receptions such as balls, formal dinners, and masquerades.

The hall was painted in two colors and covers an area of approximately 1,000 square meters. Occupying the entire width of the palace, the windows on the eastern side look out onto the park while the windows of the western side look out to the palace plaza. In the evening, 696 lamps are lit on 12-15 chandeliers located near the mirrors. The halls sculptural and gilded carvings and ornimantation were created according to sketches by Rastrelli and models by Johann Franz Dunker. (Wikipedia)

Bom dia Tsilla,
WOW, what a luxury! ;O)
Great panoramic shot with very good frontal POV and exceptional DOF.
It's a capture at the level of the subject.
Have a good Sunday.

Wonderful capture of this elegant room Tsilla. The lighting makes everything shine so much and gives us an idea of how this room must have looked in the past. The inclusion of the pianos at the end show the scale well and I am sure I can see people dancing in the background. Is this a mirror, a picture or a view into the next room?

Wow, Tsilla, it's full of details, the explosure and DOF are perfect the lights from outsides makes it really unique, very well done.

Hi Tsilla,
Technically a very good photo, considering the size of the hall and the light conditions.

The opulence displayed is amazing. I think this palace was very heavily damaged during the WWII. Nice to see that it has been restored.

One can almost visualize a grand ball with the Czar in attendance and group of dancers gracefully moving to a waltz by Tchaikovsky.

Hello Tsilla

Russia has some of the most ornate and gorgous Palaces I have ever seen. The images are stunning, and yours is know exception. Awesome POV and use of light to capture this. Thanks for sharing history with us.

Hi,what an interior it dazzels the eye.Superb composition and colors show all this in perfect detail.I found that in most places,in Austria,I could not take pictures. It was verboten.Best wishes,Otto.
