During an overnight stopover in Brussels i walked to the Grand Place in the old town and shot several photos of this famous square in the late evening , my 17 mm wide angle proved not be sufficiently wide to get the whole square all in , well the belfries hardly fitting in anyway so i settled for partial views of it instead , interestingly people were walking into my viewfinder on their way somewhere else , others gathered/ing in small groups to chat or like me simply enjoying the views like the couple in the FG .
It's a splendidly lit square at night , on the square are found the Town Hall , the Breadhouse ( la Maison du Roi ) and some other stately buildings such as those seen here called the guildhalls , the Grand Place is the most important tourist destination and most memorable landmark by far in Brussels , the Mannekin Pis ( statue of a naked little boy urinating in the fountain's basin ) is nearby and must rate second on the list of things to look out for while in the city .
Sorry for the lack of camera data , other than this being shot at high iso , around 1/10 sec , f ? , handheld yes my hands are quite steady but a 17 mm lens is quite light though .
Thank you all for the peek ,

The image as presented in monorchrome has an "old classic photo" quality.

Nicely Done

Hi Carol,
A brilliant nocturnal shot of this famous Grand Place in Brussels. A very sharp image though hend held....of course you must have very steady hands not like mine...I could have produced a display of 'fireworks' if I shot this handheld! Anyhow an interesting contrasty B&W presentation. I like the motion of the passers-by, they create atmosphere! I wonder what's the blury edges down on either side of the presentation?
A very complementing frame.
My regards,
Francis Xavier

Hi Carol,
Fantastic B&W image !! Very nice evening scene, great details, clarity and tones. Really a fine job on this. TFS Julie

Awesome night shot and especially in B&W. A technique in filming at night is to wet the pavement, did you do that for this shot? Very nice pov and good dof with nice contrast. Well done, tfs.

Bonsoir Carol,
Jolie présentation de la Grand Place de Bruxelles,
Excellent point de vue et superbe contraste et netteté en noir & blanc,
Architecture de grande beautée et jolie composition,
magnifique endroit..

Carol this is fantastic. The lighting and sharp detail is magnificent. Absolutely beautiful. TFS, Lori

Hello Carol,

wow.. steady hands indeed. Great capture of this lively square at night. I find interesting the way the standing couple really stands out against the motion blur of the passersby. Great light, contrasts and details...nicely presented in this frame.

Hi Carol,
Apart from this being a great candidate for a B&W image, the light & dark tones of the building, as well of the peoples clothing & the wet dark pavement with its lighter reflection,I find it interesting to see which people are admiring the architecture & which people are in a hurry to go somewhere.I like all the clarity of details.

A wonderful B/W picture from a building with an exceptionally well architecture, Carol!

The clarity and sharpness are amazing, and light is nicely managed. Great POV and well shown city-life. Good work!

Thanks and regards,

Light and shade has come very well in B/W.Excellent capture.

Hi Carol,
Congratulations with this fine photo and well done with getting a sharp hand-held shot at long exposure. The people are adding value except the two in the front central who are distracting as they draw some attention away from the beautiful building itself. Pity about that.

Bom dia carol
At first is not the beauty of the place that cxomes to mind but the great quality of the b/w...álmost believe we are there. It is a plaesures these great squares in the Europen cities...I love a lot to be around. Your photo remember me that pleasure, Great noturne photo.
Wish you a good WE
Um abraço

Hi, carol. This is a lovely presentation of a attractive place. The format in B&W creates a nice effect in this monochromatic view and focuses on the beauty of the structure.
Simply elegant and I can say that since I have seen this place. cheers.
