I have just come back from a short trip to Iceland and some of the other Northern Isles. As you can see I managed a stop at the Icelandic island of Heimaey and saw the wonderful puffins.

I hoped to get some shots of them flying or carrying food for their young but as you can see my puffins were a bit chilled out. I was told by a local that they are late in laying the eggs this year which is why they are not feeding the young yet.

Later in the year the whole island is involved in rescuing the young puffins who are attracted by the lights of the town. With cats and traffic this is dangerous so the locals collect them in boxes, keep them safe overnight and then release them in the morning at the cliffs

Hi Karan,
Cool image! The bird looks sad though. Great colours, details and POV. It's a very good portrait of this particular species. They are lovely. Well seen and captured, congrats! And I'm really sorry you didn't catch them flying.

Hi Karan,
Welcome back. :o)
Nice sharp and well presented image.

this has a classic puffin pose, you colours are very life-like and the angle of the shot is good.
the background has not imposed on the bird.

Regards C.D.

Hi Karan,
A beautiful bird indeed ! Very strange looking in my opinion.
Excellent DOF in your capture. Good compo and note too.

excellent subject :))
fine shot, nice pose and angle

Hi Karan,
Great sharp and colourful picture of this puffin. He's really posing for you :-)
One little nit-pick, a small triangle of different coloured grass at the bottom I would have cropped that, it distracts a bit in my opinion. Overall a fine posting!

Hello Karan :o)

Simply wonderful ! Excellent sharpness and contrasts. So lovely colours, all my compliments :o)

I could not get enough of seeing this puffins when I visited Alaska, I found them so colorful and so much fun to watch. I had to come home with a sweater with an enbroidered puffin.
Fantastic, sharp shot, looks like he purpousely posed for you.
Great shot

Hi Karan,

Beautiful model and very nice pose :-) I did a little adjustment in a workshop. Hope you don't mind.

hello Karan,
wonderful portrait of a puffin. Your POV is perfect, showing the puffin against the sky. I like the contrast between the blue and the bright orange of its beak too.The sharpness allows us to see feather details too.

Hi Karan..this is a nice shot of a puffin or in Norwegian...lundefugl ( I think the spelling is correct). I lived on an island off the coast of Norway where these great birds would come every year..they would run on the surface of the water to gain enough speed to jump in the air because they otherwise didn't have the strength to take off.

Excellent colour and detail Karan, a well composed image. They are a quaint looking bird, well done,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Autumn at St Leonards’...frosty but not overly cold.

Hello karan
How are you.
it´s nice to have you back. I love the colours and I feel it like a promess of great more photos.
And I see you have done it

my regards
