[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
St. Andrea church, in Mantova is one of the masterpieces of the great master Leon Battista Alberti. He lived during the Italian Renaissance age and he was the one, together with Lorenzo Brunelleschi, who firstly tried to conjugate the Roman Antiquity and the modern classical language. He wrote, among the others, the "De re aedificatoria", the most important architectonic treaty we ever had. (I think everyone who wants to study architecture should read it!)
In this picture I didn't want to show the interion from a classical church POV (from the door toward the altar) but I intended to show the monumentality of this architecture. This huge space recalls the Massenzio Basilica in Rome (IV century) and the Roman triumphal arch.
As you can see, the light is modulated and balanced. It's drama gives rise to a plesant and holy mood.
I hadn't any tripod with me, so I held the camera on a pew and I adjusted the settings of my camera not caring that much on sharpness and detail, but I did care a lot on the mood of the ligh and to achieve a general sense of softness. I hope I succeeded! |

fine shot here. thanks
