Saint George was born in Cappadocia (in eastern Asia Minor) and died about 303 as a Christian Martyr.
His life is obscured by legend, but his martyrdom at Lydda, Palestine, is generally considered a matter of historical fact, testified to by two early Syrian church inscriptions and by a canon of Pope Gelasius I, dated 494, in which St. George is mentioned as one whose name was held in reverence.

The most popular of the legends that have grown up around him relates his encounter with the dragon. A pagan town in Lydda was victimized by a dragon (representing the devil), which the inhabitants first attempted to calm down by offerings of sheep, and then by the sacrifice of various members of their community.

The daughter of the king (representing the Church) was chosen by lot and was taken out to await the coming of the monster, but George arrived, killed the dragon, and converted the community to Christianity.

Saint George has been adapted world wide as the saint fighting the evil and defending the good, in the end slaying the dragon (representing the evil).

Hey Joos
I think what happend here, you standing on the ground and
shooting 'up'? That explains the little 'fall backwards '
of the image and that tilt even adds a speical mood.

Interesting story. Well cropped and nice frame. I like the bit of a backward angle.

Josine.
Heel mooi weergegeven.

Groeten! Dennis

Hello Joos,

With mini camera you got pretty nice photo girl. Beautiful architecture, colors here. TFS

Hi Josine
Very good photo whits I like very much. Splendid colors its sharp – it is well done - my compliments and TFS.
Jens.

Hi Josine,
Els
:)vandaag nog

Nice shot, Josine with good croping and well framed. Only note; the knight maybe could a little sharper.
But I like the picture.

Groetjes,

Don

uhhh, I mean Saint.

Hoi Josine,
groeten,
Joop!

Good photo & well presented! Liked the notes too! Thanks for viewing my photos Josine! Have a great week-end! :} Don

One of my favorite themes! The design of the date banner presages the framing that is quite popular on TL!
Cheers
Otto
PS: Re tilt (Viking): can be fixed in Adobe Elements 3 and similar programs.

A lovely "Photo-Record" here of England's Patron Saint, and a fine note too. You chose a very interesting point of view which shows the sculpture off excellently.

Hi Josine,

Legends are so beautiful and they narrates the saga of marvellous people. I wonder how the contemporary era will be described in the future - people used plastic for transactions, used huge machines for communation which they called computer, their speed limit was only 120Km/h and son on - is this not interesting?

A beautiful image having fine details and good colors. Point of view is also interesting. Well done.

Thanks for sharing this image.

Hi Josine
This is an excellent and clear capture , picturing Saint George, -the first name of my son- very good ligthing and framing.
