Ash over Europe

Just back from a business trip to Bremen (Germany). Due to the eruption of the volcano Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland my flight was cancelled (too dangerous due the ash dust in the sky) and returned by train.

Anyway I arrived just on time to go to Haarlemmerliede, a small village near were I live, to make some pictures of the sunset which would be spectacular due the ash contaminated sky (as forecast of the Dutch weather prophets promised). Well it wasn't that spectacular as hoped, but while pointing to the golden sky two ducks flew through my view and took the shot.

PP work: Shot in Raw, adjusted brightness, contrast and clarity. Converted to jpeg, cropped, sharpened using USM, reduced noise in the selected sky, resized and add frame.

Hi Hans,
Sorry for the troubles caused by the cancellation of your flight.
However always ready to document a nature event, tragic in itself, but beautiful in your capture. Superb sharpness and colours: great photo again.
Best regards, mb

WOW! That ash makes for a fantastic sunset Hansie! The reflections in the water makes this work for me! LOVE the birds flying!

Hi Hans,

The ash makes an interesting sunset, the lines it creates in the sky are strange yet beautiful in their own way. The ducks are a nice bonus, almost like they're flying away from the danger. TFS

Beautiful Hansie. Nature at work - I'm sure it will put on some more spectacular skies for you over the next few days.
The two ducks make this scene, especially their position in the sky
Well done

Beautiful colors and silhouets.

Hi Hans,
The ash from the Iceland Volcano, shut down many airports,as you say,to dangerous to fly into.
I like how you have captured the evening light, I like that the sky is seperated into two parts, dark & light, with the light colours adding a warmth to the dark silhouettes,of the foreground. Those two geese add to the mood. Well taken.

wow, what a sunset !
Gorgeous moody picture

Hello Hans,
It is a surprise to discover such linear clouds. Ducks seem to follow the clouds. Nice reflection of the light and nice effect of the silhouettes of the trees.
Kind regards

Hi Hans,
An amazing composition with this cloud formation!
Marvellous colors of sunset with their warm atmosphere.
Nice diagonal pattern of the sky with the two birds enhancing the perspective.
Nice sihouetted FG with a dash of beautiful reflection in the water!
Well seen and neatly presented.
My best regards,

Francis Xavier

Great timing Hans, to get the ducks flying by in mid-air ... it definitely makes this shot. Beautiful sunset with the semi-diagonal lines, and the unfortunate event of ash in the air. What a story .. it's all over the international news too.

Hi Hans,
excellent scene..what a nice silhouette..perfect colour and perfect exposure...congratulation..

Hola Hans
Fantastica imagen con este cielo iluminado con una espectacular luz y unas nubes en diagonal que da mas profundidad , lo del volca se ve que estara al menos una semana mas , al menos ha servido para hacer estas fotografias tan bellas

You wer exttemly lucky with the birds passing by Hans and in this case ''ieder nadeel heeft zn voordeel"'hahahahaha of was het nou andersom?
The sky is f.ng great.

Goed gedaan.
