It's over....

For over almost one week the European airspace was (partly) closed and kept many airports all over the world in it's grip.
Since yesterday air traffic has become more or less normal again. Also my company resumed the full operation from yesterday.

I'm glad the volcanic ash threat is over...

this picture remembers the evening it all started, on April 15th the sunset was special due the volcanic ash in the sky. Here the skyline near Spaarndam with silo's and a modern windmill in the distance.

PP work: not much, shot in raw, converted to jpeg, adjusted levels, curves and contrast. Reduced noise in the sky, resized and sharpened using USM. Add frame.

Excellent golden sky and lonely silhouette.

I like the composition here because the silhouetted tree dominates the frame and I like that.

The layers of colour in the sky is almost like a rainbow and I find that atractive.

Hoi Hans,

In my opinion this is simple composition, but the excellent colors tones and silhouettes make it beautiful.
Very good chosen point of view and excellent sharpness.
The shot is tilted slightly to the left... but nice work.

Warm greetings and best wishes,

This is a superb shot, the colors are excelent, and the comp is perfect.

Quite a dramatic and artistic sky. Gells well with the silhouette against the trees. Good composition and POV.

Good Morning Hans,

Like you, I'm so glad most of the danger is over!
However, as they say, 'It's an ill wind that blows no-one any good!' You have been able to use the ash to advantage! The striated patterns in the sky are amazing and you have emphasised them by placing the silhouetted house at the most dynamic spot. The tree completes the silhouetting with its powerful, diagonal presence.
I like it!

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Hans

Belle image impressionnante de l'effet produit par ce terrible nuage volcanique.
L'inclinaison de l'arbre dans le même sens que les rayons du soleil dynamise l'ensemble(me semble-t-il).
Bravo Hans et merci de ce témoignage historique.

Beautiful night photos with so nice colors and silhouets.I like this photos.

Hi Hans,

While the ash-laden sky is the star of this shot, without the silhouetted trees and their placement in the frame, this would only be an average shot IMO. Nicely composed, I like the minimal inclusion of land.

Best regards,
