[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As last year, I visited the Azores. This time the island of Sao Miguel which is technically a re-visit as I stayed here for a little over a week 11 years ago.

This trip was less of a photography trip and more of a vacation with some photo ops. On one of the many trips we made, we visited the village of Mosteiros. It's coastline is very rough with many trails of the volcanic outbursts. Here I set up my gear and went for a long exposure using a 10-stop filter. Of course a grad ND was needed to balance the difference in exposure between sky and solidified lava. Exposure time was 2 seconds allowing for several waves to enter and exit this hole.

One the left on the edge of the rocks you are just able to see a family fishing. They used long bamboo sticks and collected their dinner pretty quickly.

Hello Niek, the longer exposure time has nicely smoothed out the water, and adds extra interest to your scene.It is quite atmospheric.
The 'portrait' presentation works well for this particular view.

You have managed to bring out the best of nature. Nice effect making use of the long exposure resulting in the mist like formation.

Hi Niek, if you cut the shot off from the horizon down you could almost mistake it for the mist swallowing a small canyon in some mountains.NIce. Fiona

Hi Niek

I too like using long exposures, they can result in some interesting results. The exposure has resulted in a mist like area of water. Unfortunately, and you have been unlucky, it has also resulted in the clouds looking blurred. I think they would have looked better if they were moving faster, especially towards or away from you. A good result never the less.

Hi Niek,
Great composition most of all, very well balanced. The long exposure in the water worked perfectly, creating a ethereal mist. I like the cloud movement and I think it is part of the charm in long exposures, stretching time.
