[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The common pigeon (Columba livia domestica) was domesticated from the rock dove at least 5000 years ago in Egypt, as depicted in hieroglyphs. Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets suggest that it might have been as long as 10,000 years ago. Pigeons were the first birds to be domesticated and have made major contributions to man, in particular in war times when they were used to send messages, thanks to their homing ability. We tend to take them for granted and even consider them "pests." They have follewed man to all continents except Antarctica and are real survivors!
They're also kinda cute!
