I won't be posting a lot of this kind, as I only once had the opportunity to use a whole flash equipment with umbrelas and so on , black background wallpaper like in a photo studio.. And I lost most of the other photos I took that day.
Have a nice day,
comments welcome.

My camera is an Olympus E-330
and a tripoder was used.

You have a very pretty model there, a good pose and nice composition. I like the natural skin texture and the rendering of the hands. On the negative side, your focus is not spot on and the eyes are consequently on the soft side. The lighting doesn't work for me, there are dark shadows on both sides of the face, you needed more light there. I am glad you took a break from flowers.

every image stands alone in the eye of the beholder , and no rules apply in photography because of this, only personal opinion , and in my opinion this is a really nice soft low key shot beautiful model also, yep works for me well done with this TFS

Hi Karin,
it seems like your obesessed taking shots w/ flowers but I do think the results are nice.
About this shot, I agree w/ Roly. You do have a prett model w/ a good pose and composition. The problem I can see here is the lighting and the focus on your model. I suggest you try to view some shots of Rew Shearer. He does have lots and lots of great portait shots and I'm sure you can learn a lot from his astounding portraits.

Keep on shooting!

Hello Karin,

Lovely portrait. The light and shadow balance is quite attractive. A lot of life is conveyed through this one. TFS.

A pity you lost the other photos of the shoot . This one could use a little more illumination from above and right side to make your model's hair and left side brighter , the hands are in focus but the eyes are a tad soft , you have a charming model here with a genuine smile and good eye contact with the lens , well Karin this was a good starter , thanks for sharing this one,

Hi, Karin. Lovely portrait of this pretty girl with excellent chiarascuro effect. the metering and expression reminds me od classical portraits of yesteryears.I personally think there are no rules in Photography and experimentation with different lighting effects is important for the learning curve and enjoyment. Cheers and TFS.

Hi Karin,
I'm still a novice when it comes to Portrait photography,I don't know enough about the lighting technique & set up equipment to give a knowlegeable critique, but I do know I like your result. I like the light & shadows you have captured.
The flesh tones look natural to me & I see no OE.I like the look you have captured. I think, when taking portraits one has to be careful of the positioning of the models limbs esp'the hands & I think you did this well by having the chin resting on the crossed hands.TFS.

Hola Karin,
de este retrato excepcional de usted.
Muy bueno este Punto de vista particular. Personalmente, me gusta mucho.
Una chica guapa en una foto hermosa!
Una noche hermosa,

HI Karin..nice shot...good job on the light and tones...well done.

Bonjour Karin

hi Karin
Very beautiful portret with perfect colours.
Well done.TFS

Hi Karin

I like this a lot! I love your lighting setup especially, the strong division between the halves of her face created by that line of shadow down the centre of her nose is unusual - and beautiful. The catchlights in her eyes are subtle but in my opinion draw the viewer in to her face ... and I really like the naturalness of skin textures. Composition is great - nothing 'chopped' by the edges of the frame, she sits nicely within your shot.

Your exif data isn't displayed so I don't know what your aperture vs. focal length was, but to me her eyes are indeed sharp, I think the only thing lacking here was enough post-resize sharpening.

I wasn't sure about the shadow of her hair on her face and the way the hair curls to the corner of her mouth, ideally as the photog you would have moved that hair behind her ear for a cleaner shot, but now I think maybe it's a cute "imperfection" that helps the shot.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Bonjour Karin! Un excellent portrait, belle utilisation de l'équipement de studio. À mon avis l'éclairage est bien réussi et la composition est intéressante. Le léger flou au niveau des yeux ne me dérange pas trop. Bravo!
