[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

Here is my contribution to the 'Time' theme, and I hope you don't think it too morbid, as this is the text from a headstone in the grave yard of the church at Middlesmoor, which is in Upper Nidderdale, above Pateley Bridge, just around the corner from where I live!

Apologies to Janice too, another image with a death connection following last week's 'pushing daisies' entry! But as this theme is time, I feel the circle of life is very appropriate.

Anyway, this carving has quite a following locally as the text is very poignant and seems very good advice to follow, if you want to see heaven that is! And I feel a little piece of heaven is the view from this church, down the dale towards Gowthwaite. I'll post the view in a ws.

My other thoughts re time are the lyrics from Pink Floyd's song, which always pull at my emotions whenever I hear it....

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
Its good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.
'Time' Pink Floyd....

How true is that!

Take care,

No, it's not morbid - the circle of life, and it's true!!

The grassy turf which covers us see - pushing up the daisies.

Where did you find it John? In a churchyard? I like what you have done with the colour - very good

I love the green on the headstone
What a great addition to the theme John

The workshop photo is also execellent!

i like the full frame, in your face effect. very good texture on the headstone. is the green weathered or ppw.?

your ws is a good image too, good original idea for the Time.

Hello John

I think this is an excellent image, really sharp with good solid colour and fantastic texture, A moving inscription and a good use of the theme title.

TFS and for joining in the theme

Hi John, superb photo, colours textures and above all the words. I know this area well as I am from Otley just a bit to the South of you. Your note is top class, the words from the Pink Floyd song "Time" have always grabbed my attention too! Thanks for sharing this one!
Best regards, Les

A thought provoking picture - nice sharp details and the green of the stone adds to that aged feeling.
Thanks for sharing
