When I was a little boy, my mother used to ask me, "What do a naughty boy and a steam engine both get?"

"A Tender Behind!"

That memory just occurred to me as I was browsing some old pictures I had taken last summer at the Bo'ness depot of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society. This is yet another shot of No. 246 "Morayshire", this time quite severely cropped.

Converted from RAW with Canon Digital Photo Professional then adjusted in Photoshop Elements 2, sharpened, resized and framed.

All comments/critiques welcome.

As requested by Peter Geldart (graffer), I have added the original and uncropped version as a workshop.

this reminds me of my Triang Hornby train set I had as a child....many moons ago.....

Good colour and sharpness and a different POV from the norm

I love the colours in this photo, why do greens and reds always look so vibrant together?
Your crop has worked well and the frame is perfect as it follows the lines of the subject.

Hello John,

Lovely rich reds and greens crisply rendered in this image, and a good contrast with the rusty rails and the rough texture of the ballast.

I know how difficult it is to decide how much to crop these car and loco shots, but I feel that here I would like to see a little more at the top and left of the picture.

Perhaps it would be informative to see the uncropped version as a WS.

The strong frame is just right here for this image, nicely echoing the red from the tender.

I don't think you blew the sky, it is just a traditional UK sky that we seem to get all the time, An interesting discussion on cropping too. I personally would have liked to see a little coal on top but that is more than compensated by the tack sharp and vivid colours of this very fine capture John. Bravo for this experiment ..
