Dear friends,
this is from a collection of recent light experiments and other lowlight shots taken around Piccadilly last Monday.

London (originally named Londinium by the Romans): At night this old but great city comes alive in a symphony of lights, colour, charm and character.. yearning to be captured through some art form. But the typical quick 'touristy' type shots may sometimes miss the essence of this exciting visual orchestra. Besides, it is impossible to really experience it with the naked eye. You need a camera, a tripod .. and very importantly, lots of patience.

This gives a backdrop of just why this city interests me so much at night. I like lowlight / long exposure photography.. and this city seems to present inexhautible opportunities - indeed, some of which may never be presented again once passed.

As the fascination continues, I thought to share one of these attempts at recording what I'll refer to as this visual symphony of lights.

This was at Piccadilly. After walking around and shooting randomly in the area, I was attracted by this bit of architecture right on the edge of the circus. Here, I am positioned on the other side of Regent Street heading towards Pall Mall / Charing Cross.
As I set up the tripod here, I quickly realised there were opportunities for more than just shooting the building in itself. To my immediate right, traffic from Jermyn Street feeds this stretch towards the circus (as there are a series of one-way roads in this area) and some London buses will ocassionally pass by and make a sharp right turn from there towards this view.

So after a few 'normal' shots.. and a quick adjustment of exposure settings this is one of the results. Another is posted in TE - here.

Notice there is a bluish/purple cast on the top right facade of the building ahead. This is from the powerful neons (seen in this shot) nearby. An example of the great variety of elements that all come into play when shooting at night in places such as this - hence the "Symphony of Lights"

Thanks again for looking and have a pleasant weekend.

Hi David!
Great streaks of the lights of the bus!
My favourite photo!

Really busy shot Daniel, but not crowded. Love the light trails here, the fact the buildings in the background are sharp and you've caught a couple of static vehicles really adds to the overall image! Love it Daniel. TFS

Hi Daniel,
You did it again. Excelent nocturnal, full of acion and details. You are really the master of the night traffic shots.

Hi Daniel! Lovely composition. I like it. You must set your POV on a tripod. The details are sharp w/ some OE on lit areas.

Looks like the ghosts have come to town Daniel.Striking photo, great colours and interesting note .thanks.

Excellent image again! It's interesting that the lower red lights have a pattern to them almost like a tire tread. Something on those lights must have been blinking on and off and quickly too. Well done.
