After the big snowstorm came through the next day we had strong 45knot winds for 24 hours. When I got up the next day there were somewhere in the midst of 100 or more Canadian Geese all bunched together down on the ice, they were there all together so tight keeping warm I suspect. As the morning came and the sun rose and started shining little by little you would hear the honks start and a group of them would walk up on the ice a bit and then fly off, then a little while later another group, this went on for hours until the majority of them were gone, when they left what remained was a big opened space of slush ice that they had kept from freezing by their paddling feet and body warmth I would suspect. They are such fascinating creatures!

How wonderful to have seen all that coming and going. I'd love to have been there Donna. Isn't amazing how they all work in unison. They fly south to the warmth, and then fly back next year for you summer and breeding? I remember the movie with Anna Paquin in called ''Fly Away Home'' many years ago.
Thank you for sharing

Hello Donna,

Beautifull shot.
Lovely tones, and their flight is fantastic..

Enjoy the days..

Hello Donna!

Yep ,they are doing just like your Old man is doing with his ship whe she is docked in icy waters, to keep the waters around the propeller ice free ( to avoid damages to the prop , blades )
I guess you were a bit too far here , and you were to the limit of your camera/lens. A bit more sharpeness here would have made it better. But the composition is excellent.

They left our area , a while ago (^_^). Still a long way to go !

Cheers and Season's Greetings wherever you will be during the Holiday Season!
Robert

Hi Donna,
Belle présentation et jolies couleurs, belle composition et détails, Bravo..

Hello Donna,
This looks like winter indeed!
An amazing amount of birds, they will probably stay as long as there is no ice on the water...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Donna,
I am amazed that they are still here in Southern Ontario. If I had wings, I would be in Florida or some place warm long time ago!
