A daily scene,

The tug leaving the port after he assisted one vessel departing. He is heading back to its base in Trois-Rivières a few nautical miles upstream. As you can appreciate the waters are pretty icy these days. An ice free channel is visible, the North westerly wind is pushing the ice floes on the South shore.

A small and humble farewell to one of my favorite members who left us today after nineteen months of very active works on TL. Thanks to her great contribution to this site. Beside her active life as a dedicated and talented photographer , she did spend a lot of time posting comments and critiques and workshops to countless members. Her tips and comments where sincere and honest. Sure we will miss her.

Thanks again Magda , and Take care

and a big Hello to Paul

I love it!! What a shot Robert, all that ice and whatever it is - I don't know as I've never lived in snow before... Looks like we could run on top of that - But I really don't think soooo...
Well captured, and a good one for Magda too. Her photos are awesome.

Fantastic! Let's start with the composition: well it's perfect, straight out of a textbook, rule of thirds construction you could measure.
Great subject, point of view, saturation. The blue of the boat stands out against the whites and greys of the environment.
Lovely shot!

I love the foreground here, Robert - adds great depth and texture to the scene. The blue of the boat stands out very well and the line of trees is positioned perfectly to break up the view.

A lovely, simple and interesting composition, very well done.

Does not look like this tug is going anywhere with the snow... ha ha ha. Dont know how strong they are. Composition is very good!

Salut Robert

Belle photo du Saint-Laurent l'hiver. Y'en a un qui a marché sur l'eau, toi tu marches sur la glace.

The little tug has a lot of work to do, dragging great big ships to safe harbour: an appropriate dedication to a very precious member/former member of this site!
Great colours and details and perfect composition

Hi Rob,

The first thing that came to mind was, "imagine trying to swim in that..!" I think it's a great photo to dedicate to our good friend Magda.

Beautifully composed & framed!

Hi Robert,

Fantastic visual, that is wonderful and at the same time very cold, but the scene is wonderful. Reading text didn't know as Magda, I feel a lot.
Great colours and details and perfect composition.

Hi Robert,
Excellent capture of this hard working tug boat betwen those large ice chuncks. This is a picture which never ever can be made here in the Netherlands (maybe next ice age ;) I like the contrast of the blue hul against the white ice and dark grey sky. Perfect posting and nice to remember Magda's farewell!
Take care and have a nice weekend!

:) Later...

Hi Robert,

Well captured and good use of light and shadows. Magda will be missed, that's for sure.

Hi Robert

Wow... I have never seen a river full of ice before. This must be a great sight to see in person, but cold. Great textures, and if it wasn't for the blue hull on the boat, I would think this was a B&W image. :-)

Hi Robert,

Ah very nice... tug boats, I love watching them set about to work by the piers in North Vancouver. I like this framing, very effective. The gray sky really puts a nice touch to the pure white snow/ice... and there's the little tug boat, standing out the most of all! Lovely POV... nice composition as well. :)

I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on..

Simply outstanding I like the editing here not to forget the compo, very pleasing indeed. Cheers always.
