This was Day 2 of the Canadian International Air Show in Toronto. The 3 hour+ show always features the Snowbirds, Canada's famous aerobatic team. These daredevils of the sky, in the 35th season, are totally awesome!!! Here we see 3 of the 9 planes. I have put the full formation in the workshop.

Obviously, not easy taking good shots at that speed, so thank God for digital: just follow the planes and fill up that memory card!

PP Notes:
Not much done here. Only cropping and Luko's USM

Enjoy!

Hello Pierre, what a precise photo you did here! I did a try this summer and it is too hard for me :)

The planes are perfectly clear and in focus.

The planes in the composition are very well placed, and with the fume of the jet it's complete.

Great definition.

Very well done. Greets, Yan

Tres belle netete. 1/1600 explique cela evidemment.
A bientot.
Denis

Bonjour Pierre

A superb catch, of these perfectly symmetrical planes. Good sharpness, color, & lighting. Bon travail!

Hi Pierre,
Very clear and sharp shot. As you say it's not easy at the speed the planes fly ... but you achieved it with perfection :). Nice light and colours also.

Be well,
António

WOW! Nice shot. I heard alot about this f/4 lens. The exposure is spot on. Did you use a manual setting or spot metering? ...Nice pattern and colours...Bravo!

Great capture of the Snowbirds, Pierre. I like this shot the best as it gives the impression of their speed - they are about to leave the frame trailing their smoke. The diamond shot is good too, but this one gives the essence of how close they fly together.

Great composition and wonderful capture Pierre. Terrific exposure too, great to see so much detail in the planes, especially against such a blue sky. TFS

Peter

a perfect formation very well taken.

Excellent capture.

Great image! Were you practicing panning or there were just enough light available? :)))
You caught a great moment in a nice way. I prefer WS #1 with tighter cropping and a frame. Still, what amazes me is the sharpness and colors.
Great job, TFS!

Regards
Robert

Nice close line astern formation! Nice shot. Crisp sharp, blue sky, good formation and your eye for the shot equals a good picture. I do agree with the workshop, maybe shooting the formation that way would have produced a nicer shot. Not easy to do though.

Hé bien! On fait dans l'aviation maintenant! Superbe de bel alignement! Bravo pour le cadrage.. Avec juste un soupcon de fumerolle! C'est superbe!
En plus... Ça pourrais servir au bon vieux Sesame Street... Imagine:

Now kids... lets see the plane... One... Two.. Three... And could you repeat the same? One... tw...

I thinKKK it's bettter thattt i counttinue...

Ho no.. not the count with his bat and lighthnings!!

OK aussi bien d'arrêter là! :o)

I agree with Denis' WS in that more space in their front would have been better. But I know tracking a fast moving object really isn't that simple Pierre, so I think you did a great job here. The perspective you got on these planes is beautiful. It shows they're actually a lot worse than real tailgaters ;o). TFS.

Amities
Guy

Hi Pierre,
Nice shot. Very energetic with the diagonal composition of the plains and the smoke trail. Nicely cropped, too...Well done.

Hi Pierre,
Great shot. I have now for years tried to capture the Snowbirds with out much luck! I have many photos of them, but none of them any good IMO. This is really good.
Sunil

All those pictures are all very nice. I can almost hear the thunder of the planes as they go past.

Hi Pierre,

That's where I wanted to be, at the airshow, couldn't make it.
Excellent shot and well done the composition and details. Excellent work.

Mike

Fantastic shot Pierre
I was over at the air show as well but I couldn’t get any good shots, at least not as good as this one.
Thanks for sharing it
Very nicely done

Hi pierre,
Great compo. I think the whlo crew was also OK.

Good job,

Hendrik

Perfect shot , very good composition, lovely sky color.
Well done, with this difficult subject.
Vassilis

J.

Wow! So crisp and clear. Did you pan for this great shot Pierre. Wonderful frozen action.

Bonsoir Pierre,
Philippe

Great image Pierre,
Indeed not easy at all. I tryed to get some of those when we took a friend for a flight, but I wasn't as lucky as you... Maybe next time.
I love those things you know. I wish i could fly one...
Wonderful sky and perfect formation. Everythig looks so perfect...
Well done!!!
Take care, Stef :))

Hi Pierre
I had no idea that these snowbirds were flying soo close .. I had also visited this air show but since I do no thave much of a zoom on my camera ... I just decided to watch the show rather than take the pics
tfs .. cheers ... sarju

WOW!
Excellent photo & detail!
This Sunday, for the first time, the Hellenic Airforce will conduct the largest (if not the first) airshow ever! I can hardly wait, I even bought a portable disk drive to download the photos from the CF card! The other day, we had the Red Arrows from England perform here. They where fantastic!
Are you happy with the 70-200 L lens? I'm considering buying one.
When I get back, I'll post some too!

i'm surprised those things still fly. i certainly hope that the dnd, is taking some initiative to get a new training plane, to replace these super old snowbirds.

good capture of movement!
cheers
-Bart

This a great formation you captured.Well Done.
Mel

Great picture of those fast flying planes!
