When my daughter Kalina was 3 she decided to teach her dog "Bud" to read. At least that's what it looked like to me. I had to sneak up on them to get this photo without disturbing them, because as soon as she saw me she stopped.
I scanned this photo that I had taken with my Pentax K1000....then increased contrast, mid-tones and sharpened. Then I made the frame and ran it through Neat Image. Then I had to clone several strange pixels out.

This photo was one of my mother-in-laws favorites. I'll have to print one and send her a copy. She always wanted one and now thanks to modern technology I can give her an even better version!

I'm posting the original scanned version so you can see what i started with and play in a workshop yourself! I'm sure there are a lot more of you better with Photo Editing than I am!!
Have fun!

Very nice capture Lori.
Aren't these the loviest of memories.
The shared attention for the book is touching.
The background is very well choosen too for an ideal contrast.

Voila une bien belle photo souvenir pleine de tendresse et d'humour.
Cadrage et composition réussi ... bravo!

this is very 'classic'! and the values of this photo is so high! nice photo... and the feelings is certainly well captured there..

Wonderful memory. Wonderful photo. This is the essence of what photography is all about. This moment frozen in time to enjoy over and over again....long after the real moment has passed. TFS....:O)

It's a very special moment you captured. The light that comes from the left enhances it very much. I bet that even if you left it all grainy it would still look beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us :)

This is a really nice photo Lori. I like the superb light you have on your little girl.

Cet enfant qui apprend à lire à son petit chiot c'est magnifique! Très bel éclairage également.
Merci d'avoir publié cette photo

excellant:) your daughter must be very proud to see such a beautiful picture of herself now..light from right and her place just in front of the dark wall made it really very good also, as well as the warm feelings it gives..

Very tender and special moment you've captured here Lori,a once in a lifetime picture ;-)..It's a real shame for the quality though..looks oversharpened to me,could not resist trying to give it a dreamy impression ..made a ws to compare.

A real beauty!!!!!
This needs some more then sympathy.
You can feel the mood, and it is taken on the same hight the childeren live!!!.
Very importend I think.

Aaahhhh this is the sweetest picture good enough for a calendar, excellent post, well done!

Superb capture! This is a great connection between them...hehe reading! Funny how the dog so serious of the words that she read and pointed...tfs!

Beautiful moment!!! Great light, and I like that you took this photo from down low, at their level. The toy dog in the background is a great touch, as it is a clue to the age of this photo.. I don't think they make these anymore, do they? A precious memory, I'm sure! -Jenn

Do mais lindo que já vi!
Parabéns pelo momento

Hi Lori, this is really a funny and nice picture. She looks like she is pointing at some difficult words, so the dog has to pay attention while reading.
great work, great note

I think you did a great job post processing this photo! It is really hard, especially when you are relatively new to it. With the help from people here on TL, and from just practicing, you will see yourself improving each day.

Anyways, this is such a precious photo! I love everything about it, her pose, her little finger on the book, the toy, the puppy...it is such a great composition.

Have a look at the workshop...

I see you were good at photography even back then Lori. This is so wonderful. Such a cute and nostaligic image. I like the way you got right down to the child's level to compose this shot. Good timing getting her little finger pointing at the words in the book. Overall this is a fantastic image. You have done a good job on the post processing. I looked at the original for comparison. And I noticed that my daughter did a nice workshop for you.
Update: I forgot to mention that I like the cream colour of the outside border that you chose, as it fits the photo very well.

A very tender moment. I enjoy so much looking at a child who appreciate life when it's simple. I'm reading to my Dog... It can't be more simple then that. I'm learning and he should learn too.

very well framed by the way, excellent choice of color!

I love light on this picture

Hi Lori,
I hope very much to make such a grand photo of a child to. I can see how busy they are, the dog almost believes he can learn to read. It makes me think of the small guy Janneman Robinson in the Winny The Pooh tales. It has exact the same atmosphere, very very nice photo. I would present it printed and in a nice frame. They will keep it for ages! My compliments!

Update: Added a WS, it was to hard to resist

Quelle jolie photo pleine de douceur et de tendresse Lori. Superbe. Amitiés, Patty.

Excellent photograph! You got the lights just right and the softness of the lines fit the child and her pet. Composition too is superb. Down to the eye level of the child and croping it close not cutting any part of the subject. The background is not darkened and so blurred to eliminate the context of space where the child is. This is a good example for those who are beginners in photography.

Very cool Lori. A Kodak moment for sure!TFS and God's best!

Very well done in deed and I can see why your mother wants a copy.

I didn't see the original photo but I think that the end result is very well done. The mood created is right, the colours and the composition.

Have a great day, Yan

This is sweet! Baby Kalina is teachiing the cute pup to read! heheh....

A shortcut to this shot has "hung" on my desktop for quite a long time now. I'm sorry for not visiting sooner, Lori.
It's an excellent shot compo-wise. Note, light: all ok. Scanning the image made it a bit too soft, I think. What's really weird are the stray pixels above the book.

so sweet !

Hi, Lori! Diana (Cloverstar) mentioned this shot in the general forums as being one of her alltime favorites on TL, so I had to come take a look.

I agree with her! It's so good it hurts. Both babies are so cute, and sharing an obviously candid moment (you couldn't have set this up if you tried a thousand times)...a once-in-a-lifetime shot! Great title, too. :)))

Gayle :)

Wonderful shot - a timeless shot really well captured.
Thanks for sharing

This is fantastic shot! Great work, very nice moment captured!

Oh my! It's sooo cute, Lori! I like it so much! Although a bit OE w/ some noise, the lighting on the subject is nice. The great thing here is the content rather than the technicality. Very lovely moment captured. I'll put it in my Cute Overload Theme :)
Freddie :)
