[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Recently my husband and I attended a retirement dinner for Dr. Judith A. Crissman, one of my former chemistry professors at Mary Washington College, now University of Mary Washington. The combination retirement/centennial celebration dinner was held at Belmont, the 26-acre estate and home of American artist Gari Melchers from 1916-1932. The skies were darkening a bit, threatening rain, but the evening remained unspoiled. At the left of the shot, I was surprised to have captured Dr. Crissman arriving for her event.

PP Work--just bumped the contrast enough to bring out the darkening sky, using the figure on the left as a guide, so as not to have it melt into its surroundings.

Hi Karen,

All I can say is "wow"!! Talk about getting all of the elements in a photo. The estate is very beautiful. You have captured it very nicely with the flowers in the foreground, the darkening sky, and having her arriving at the event, is just the icing on the (retirement)cake! :D

She would probably love a copy of this one! I know I would.

Thanks for sharing this milestone of her life.

Hello Karen,
I wouldn't seen her unless you told me!
But then the tulips are the eye-catchers before my eyes go to the fine piece of architecture...
A well balanced composition with sharp fine details!

Lots of things to like in this one, Karen: the foreground tulips, the contrast of the darkening skies, the path, the well-conveyed sense of scale and form. This will be a fine keepsake for both you and your esteemed prof to commemorate this night.
