A plant growing at Read sanctuary in Rye New York.

The Friends of Read is a non-profit organization, run by volunteers, dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary, a Westchester County nature preserve abutting Long Island Sound. Funded primarily by membership dues and open to anyone who wishes to join, The Friends work to supplement the county’s support of the park.

Read Sanctuary is a 179-acre park adjacent to Rye Playland in Rye, NY. There is shoreline ideal for marine studies, as well as Playland Lake, and trails through the forest and fields of the park. The National Audubon Society has acknowledged the park as an Important Bird Area. The park’s nature center building contains two salt-water touch-tanks, a bird viewing area and provides an ideal setting for class discussion. Educational programs covering a wide variety of topics are available year-round.

hello Angela

Merry Xmas and Happy 2009 New Year to you!

I like the color tone of this abstract and macro shot with good bokeh and sharp detail of the plant. Very pleasant mood of the natural scenery and you chose a good composition to show the abstract aspect of the park.

tfs, bill

Excellent DOF and color palette in this shot! I like the graceful arc of the plant stem and the details of its autumn textures. A well handled image with beautiful appeal:)

This is really nice, excellent detail and beautiful bokeh. TFS

Hello Angela,

I'm sure you have had less interest in this than it deserves bcause it is does not grab the attention on the thumbnail. Perhaps your title should have said something like 'What's Brown and Droopy?' just to get people looking! Once opened, the shot speaks for itself! Good plant details, very well composed and well chosen dof.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
