Kiwi Christmas tree

A few days before Christmas a picture of the worlds most beautiful Christmas tree: the Pohutukawa. I visited this place at Long Bay together with Janice, so looking at it gives me warm memories! Before a year ago (time is flying) I had never heard of this wonderful tree with very special but also gorgeous flowers (see this image). The Kiwi's are very proud on this tree, which start flowering just before Christmas. And right they are a wonderful tree with its significant red flowers.

Well my contribution for Christmas on TL this year....

Happy holidays my dear TL friends!

N.B. Fiddled around with the settings (which don't make sense: f/19, 1/125 sec, 400ASA and 1.5 step decreasing the brightness setting) Anyway this one appeared reasonable in respect of brightness and contrast.

PP work: shot in Raw, adjusted brightness, clarity and contrast. Converted to jpeg, adjusted the red colours (that's still a hard job!). Removed some annoying poles and wires with the clone tool, resized and used USM. Add small frame.

Hi, Hans. A very Merry christmas to you and the family and a sincere thanks for the wonderful photos, your insight and comments have provided to TL members over the past years. Janice is another favorite of mine.
This photo is well composed, excellent clarity, with a POV designed to give depth. The color reds are optimized very well. Cheers and TFS.

Hello Hans!
Really wonderful this red tree!
Great colours in your picture and perfect sharpness!
Nice perspective and excelelnt atmosphere!
Best regards!

This is kiwi tree?
Great capture and wonderful wish my friend!
Congratulation and thanks for sharing!

Hi Hans, I see the Pohutukawa trees every day as I drive to Orewa to work, I know you visited Orewa.

The trees are not yet fully in blossum as yet a little late this year.

A fine posting.

Ah yes, I remember this day at Long Bay - your first day in NZ. I was only there last week with Kelsey (giving him a driving lesson) and I ALWAYS think of you when I am there.
The tree looks great Hansie, very Chrismassy, and I am also impressed with the sky and clouds and how they show up against the BG too.
The trees have put on another wondeful display again this year, but unfortunately the wind has caused many flowers to drop too soon.
Super shot and memories - thank you

Hi Hans
I remember a friend of mine telling me about those trees and how right she was, it definitely is a beauty.

I just read your update, looks like you will be really busy in the upcoming months, but what an experience you will gain.
Merry Christmas to you and yours and my best for the upcoming New Year.

Hi Hans!

Now this is what I call a Christmas tree! I saw the flowers; yes, absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen anything like it. The detail in the clouds looks great. I bet this was a very difficult photo to get the lighting right. I got some OE on my red snowman feet. I love the contrasting colors here. Very well done my friend!

Thanks for sharing this, or I would have never known about the worlds most beautiful Christmas tree.

Hans I have just learned to appreicate another style of Christmas tree.
Your work on this photo was certainly worth it, color of the tree shows well and setting of the landscape and sky help show the detail.

Have a Merry Christmas

Hi Hans, Very fine subject for this time of the year. As kids at Oakura beach in NZ we played around such trees at the beach (the good old days). Well composed to show the strip between land and sea as you have here. All the best for 2010, it is always good to see your images and read notes as you write interesting cooments. TFS. Murray.

Wow what a wonderful shot Hansie.... love the colours here..the red certainly looks lovely against the blue sky.

Yes we do like our Pohutukawa trees... but not when the wind is blowing and all those little red needles from the flower..cover our house!! they grow all over the cliff in front of our house.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas Hans.
Best wishes
