The Beauty of Fern Fronds

I am a big fan of ferns and am lucky to have many growing wild close to home.

I love to photograph them in all stages of growth, and every now and them I like to play around with Photoshop and see what I can do with them.

These are 2 fronds slowly opening up, and I like how I have focused on the left one leaving the other one a soft blur.

I changed the photo to negative and just used Levels and Shadows and Highlights and came up with this.

I hope you like it

Janice

Good eh.. evening Dear Janice.
Wonderful and good looking colours in this picture.
It could be a perfect try with combining different shots of it, replacing the focus little by little.
See what I uploaded ones (two pictures with flower) using that free CZM program.
Best wishes from Jan

That is very beautiful, Janice and the fern in the foreground is so clear, with its soft=focus 'echo' behind. I like it very much.

Very interesting treatment here Janice. The colors are beautiful. Nice shot.
I too am a huge fan of ferns, but of course there are only a limited number of varieties that are actually hardy for my region.
Trudy

Very nice Janice! I like the purple hues here! You did a great job playing around with the colors on this, beautiful! spring is coming!!~

Certainly a very striking effect, Janice

In my country they are considered a great delicacy but only the sprouts in the Spring.

Have a good evening and TFS

Hello Janice, I really like how you have processed this shot, the result is unusual but quite beautiful.
I like the sharp focus on the fg frond and the blur on the bg frond.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Janice
Superbe photo avec un très bon travail à la prise de vue et en PP. Superbes couleurs.
Deux petites traits(?) à gauche, à effacer peut-être?
Amicalement

Hi Janice,
Fine PP work, I was wondering what the purple-pink background came from? Well you expained it in your note, briliant idea! Perfect sharp and a fine DOF. Regarding the brightness, I have the impression there is some OE in the tip of the left fern leaf. Anyway a great idea well executed!

For a moment I thought you had been drinking too many of dem Vodka and Cokes...and seeing purple... ha ha.

Lovely to have a play in photoshop like this, and yes I like it, im always a fan of things purple, and this purple/blue effect is very pleasing. I like the mirror effect here, well done.... keep playing!

Like you I am a great fan of ferns. I have photographed many, but never tried anything like what you did here, mainly because I love the colour green. Seeing your picture I realize that what you've done is perfectly legitimate alternative, well done, I enjoyed your experiment!

Cette photo est superbe. Quelles couleurs ! Bravo !
Merci du partage.
Antoine.
