A church in a very small village lost nowhere in the bolivian altiplano. During my stay in Bolivia and Peru I couldn't help feeling fascinated by the way the christian religion had conquered the south american ground. Everywhere one can find christian churches, some built by the spanish and very beautiful and rich in ornments, some very poor and simple like this one. Those were built by the indian people, and I'm very fond of them, since their simplicity and natural aspect makes me feel more comfortable with the place. This one is located in a village which is composed of a couple of houses, an hoven and a soccer playground - the second thing spread overall with churches... The representations of Jesus Christ are often interesting: they show the Christ wounded, bleeding, suffering at any rate; it is said that it was the way indian people had found to express their own pain and suffering from the colonization. I'm not a believer neither do I follow any religion. I'm interested in religion, but when I was their I felt sick thinking of what it had made, the murderings, the wars..

NB: this is my last contribution to TrekLens... for a month, since I'm living for a mountainbike trip in Iceland... and hopefully will come back with great shots to share with you all. In the meantime enjoy, life's amazing, and farewell!

Check there and look for the "photos" section for more images.

Any comment welcome !

Cheers folks.

Farewell for a month Dams and be careful! Thank you for leaving us with this haunting image. We look forward to your return.....

I agree with you that the small simple churches have a feeling of warmth and welcome to everyone, nice shot and good luch on your trip.

Excellent colors and interesting words about religion. I mostly agree with you... but I got an impression from my own visit to Bolivia and from what I read, that now religion plays rather positive role there. I was surprised to know how tolerant it is now and how wisely it tries to embrace pagan rituals of Indian people (at festivals, etc.), instead of trying to prohibit them.
I like your comment about soccer too. I saw teenager girls and boys playing soccer selflessly in a poor village at about 4000m of elevation in Bolivian Altiplano.
