[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Mangahazu is the malagasy for manioc- the root vegetable the boy is cutting up with his rather large machete. In the coastal, forested areas of the east coast it seems that every boy from age 4 upwards carries one of these knives. Turned bw through channel mixer- monochrome and increased contrast slightly.

Hi

Great picture. It looks really good in black and white and you have composed it well, while capturing the facial expressions very effectively.

Nice one

Drew

Awesome portrait Paul, nicely composed. I like the contrast here as well as the slight grainy aspect :) Their facial expression is priceless.

Hi Paul,
Very beautiful portrait of these smiling children, so different in their expressions. Very well done, congratulations.
Mary

Delightful! Great capture of these smiling faces. Good choice with the b&w treatment, depth of field is excellent although I do wish the boy would keep his eye on what he's doing - he'll cut himself!!
I'd heard that the people of Madagascar are a mix of African and Indonesian geneology, I can imagine it in these faces.
Great work, thanks for sharing
Rew
