The regal lion from the Calgary Zoo looked so claustrophobic against the mesh fence, I decided to set him free into the sunset. His royal pose reminded me of Aslan from the Tales of Narnia.

Combining two shots, I cloned the lion onto a prairie sunset I had shot last fall. Color and contrast adjusted, downsized.

Check the Workshop for the original zoo shot.

Also, check this Workshop Picture of A Boy and a Lion: Aslan and my son looking at each other!

Hi Otto,
Your work makes honor at this king of the jungle. The effect created with Aslan against the sunset is stunning. Excellent mix of tones with the two photos. You should show him his portrait at your next visit to the zoo! :)Very well done! Annie

Hello Otto,

This "Raja" (King) is coming out the photograph, dangerously!!
It is stunning picture. Expressions on the face of this animal says, "Don't dare to come near !!". Excellent work with background sky.

Hi Otto,
Good job done!! The lion is back where he belongs. Great effect, details and sharpness.

HI Otto,
Two nice coloured and sharp pictures to make One Great image, it is almost as though the Lion is about to step out of the picture, excellent PP work.
Tfs Andy

Great idea to set him free Otto, glad you didn't in real life, could have been dangerous. Excellent image and very unique, great PP work.

I can only imagine the trouble you had with the edges of his mane, trying to get that to look natural against the sunset. Great work! Good positioning within the frame, and what an amazing animal.

Well done. Such a difficult task very well executed. Nice work.
Regards, Kath

Hi Otto,

Amazing PP work resulting to a great image. The majestic Lion is in his world free and proud! Fantastic shots, both the lion and the prairie.

Love the flawless montage, Otto. Good work. TFS,
Freddie :)

A real strong portrait of the lion
The background fits in

Excellent. Very good PP work here. You gave him back his freedom.

Great work, Otto. A beautiful pov and a spectacular background. Though the lion's lighting doesn't really fit the background, it does make him stand out more, which is always good. Nice work and beautiful colors you have here.

I enjoy the result a lot! It look natural except it's a little low relief out of tree. Look like the Lion decide to travel! It would be funny you try pretending you were in face to face here. They will say... Come on... You answer... You well see the face have excellent condition of light for that hour of the day.... It was my flash of course ;)
Great Shot!

What a well done blend of the two photo's, the BG change certainly changed the dynamics, and gives the regal look to your subject.
Finished work, is sharp and detailed, gives a depth as well

Fantastic shot and marvellous composition, Otto!
Really impressive!
Great sharpness and wonderful colors!
Just beautiful
Congratulations and TFS.

Superb Otto, what a difference to one which is in a cage. Those back where I came from had a new enclosure which was more like them actually being in the wild. Nice PP work with the cloning of the two images and vibrant colours. TFS,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Duck Reach Track III’. Interesting link you gave me too. We have had a couple of bridge disasters in Australia...http://www.ccc.tas.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=424 and http://www1.worksafe.vic.gov.au/vwa/media.nsf/docsbyUNID/AA91781646C20925CA256F330006746E?Open. There was another in New South Wales where a train derailed and ran into a bridge killing 70 odd.

i guess he would like the work you´ve done, otto,
setting him "free" to run into the wonderful sunset and not being behind bars.
superb pp-job - looks totally real.
well done & viele grüße, thor.

Great pp work! I love the blending you did so the outside of the fur dosen't look out of place. Nice sharpness and expression.
well done,

Nicely shot and amazing PP work. I agree with Shelbee about the blending -- the touch and patience only an artist can do.

Hello Otto

Very well done. That is wonderful PP work.Excellent colours and focus.Job well done.TFS

Hi Otto,
And Aslan it is! Your composition is splendid. Well done! Pleasant colours, too :)
