[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
To find the dyers souk or tanneries in Fes you have two options; either follow the general direction of tourist groups or follow your nose. The odour is distinctive - alleviated by bunches of mint being thrust under your nose to disguise the stench... it also helps to prevent wretching.

The sight is extraordinary - dozens of white plastered pits holding vast amounts of pigeon poo -used as preservative, and in which men stand waist high in order to draw in the hides to be soaked. The destruction that the miasmic concoction must wreak on their external flesh and lungs is unthinkable..

Hi Celina,
Once I did see an aerial photo from high up and on it were all these pits, filled with different colours, with what I did not know.
Thanks for telling me what is going on here.

Quite a capture, even though it tells a harsh story.

I really like the strong graphism of those pits, Celina, especially in this 4x3 format. Maybe the man is a tad too dark, some selective brightening might work wonders there. But all in all a very nice, beyond-the-tourist-thing shot.
TFS

Well seen. Strong, geometric composition of an interesting, unusual subject. Well exposed.

TFS,
David
