[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
"He is very imprudent, a dog is. He never makes it his business to inquire whether you are in the right or in the wrong, never bothers as to whether you are going up or down upon life's ladder, never asks whether you are rich or poor, silly or wise, sinner or saint.

"You are his pal. That is enough for him, and come luck or misfortune, good repute or bad, honour or shame, he is going to stick to you, to comfort you, guard you, and give his life for you if need be--foolish, brainless, soulless dog!"

~ Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow
(Jerome K. Jerome)

Just a picture taken of a friend's dog in our back garden one day last month. I was taken with her attentive look and was reminded of the above words which I learned at school - I had to browse the internet to help me recall the exact quotation, though: that was nearly 50 years ago, after all!

Great animal portrait John, you have caught a marvellous expression. Love the catch lights in the eyes too.

Hello John
Beautiful dog portrait you are showing us here and the note you wrote is great.
Love the pose and look in the eyes very much.
Composition and sharpness are great and the clarity in the eyes of the dog is wonderful.
The image seems to have a bit of a red color cast though and gould use a little more detail in the darker parts.
I did rework the image in photoshop.
Hope you like it.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend,

Nice shot! I like the reflection in his eyes. Good portrait of a dog.
Well done!

Hello John

Beautful capture here, really nice POV and the eyes are just adorable. Maybe just a shame the left ear is not all showing. Excellent work though and very good DOF.

TFS kind regards Helen

hello John,
this is a nice portrait. You have shown off the dog's kindness. it's sharp and I like the composition with the ear in the top right corner.

Hello John I think you got a great shot here focus and DOF is perfect the detail in the catchlight is razor sharp, nice shallow dof to focus on the eyes good contrast and saturated colours tfs rgds Necip

Hello John,

This is wonderful close up shot. Sharp, beautiful expressions in his eyes, well composed. TFS

Excellent composition - lovely expression on Milo's face :)
Nice cropping - lovely portrait :)

Great portrait of a beautiful dog - lovely details and smooth range of tones and colours. Not sure I agree with all the quotation though - I've definately met dogs with more likelihood of having a soul than some people I've met!

It's not a 100 %, but definitely a large part of German Shepherd in this lovely dog, John. I don't necessarily agree with the quote in the note, but never mind that... if I look into these eyes, I see devotion!
Excellent sharpness and very nice details, outstanding compo for this dog portrait. Taken at the dog's own height, it always works...
TFS. I like Harry's ws version too, but your original is very good without alterations.
