Welcome to the Projects... Pt. 1
Judjing from your note and this photo, your series will be very interesting, Jean Pierre.
I like the depth eccentuated by the fog... And the 'bent' building brings some dynamism to the composition.
So, I'm in, and will check for more ;)
Honestly, the tilt bothers me a bit. But the light you've captured is so great that it overcomes that little negative. One of the B&W I've seen lately. And your overall compositon is excellent. Looking forward to seeing the rest!
It's very amazing, I was In NY this week end, and I saw building lost in fog, like in your picture. It make a very worrying impression.
Very good picture.
i like this type of photos, they look like HDB flats in Singapore, HDB stand for Housing Development Board, it does the same thing as Projects, but the houses are not exectly cheap...but they are clean though...about 80-90% of our population live in HDB flats all their lives...including myself.
we don't get fog here...but it looks good :) do they hav numbers on the side like those in Singapore?
Hi Jean Pierre, which part of NYC is this? I can imagine that growing up in certain housings projects of NY can be hard. On the other hand NYC is NYC ... and for me it is the best place to stay. I wish I could stay there having a good job ... But I have to confess that I was just a tourist and I hadn't to fight for daily life. I've been twice in NY. Last time on september 2001 (including the remarkeble day).
I like the atmosphere on this photo. The beauty of (ugly) concrete in the fog is great. I like the melancholy. Waiting for more!
bravo on capturing a subject you know so well. i hope it was worthwhile for you to document this aspect of city life. this one is beautiful and stark cold...sublime is the word to describe it i think. look forward to the rest of the set.
Hi Jean Pierre, I find your picture wonderful, the fog, the use of b/w, it really gives an eery feeling. Your note is very useful too !
Hi Jean Pierre,
Very nice and sad picture with incredible light -
a great shot
Well...the low key definitely works here. And that fog looks eerie like it's hiding something that shouldn't be seen. The tone with your note was well captured.
Thanks to share with us this part of your life. Yes it's gonna be a dark day with this fog.
This shot has alot of feeling. I think its brilliant that you took it when it was so foggy, kinda goes well with the life of the projects. Although I'v never lived in public housing as such, I am from NYC and know many people who have.
I really like this photo, and I'll be waiting to see the rest....
thas okey,i like this also.....i really like realistic photos...i mean,i like them cuz they can open they eyes of blind people..to see how we live nowdays...
This shot is really about that..to show the dirty, the bad,the hard part of the life...and sopmetimes its much more neseserry, that to see the beauty...
Let me to notice just one thing..i think u should give a bit more contrast to this shot...i know its foggy, but still i think it would look better...unfortunatelly,now i cant do the WS to show u what i mean..but its ok:)..and...i like it in this way...!
See u dear JP...i will came tomorrow to see the next of youres!
( and yeee...here in Portugal,i can take imillions of cool photos...my bojfirend think im crazy, cuz i take a photo from eveything:) )
Hi Jean Pierre,
Nice shot.. I like B&W here.. and street illumination seems very nice below..
Expecte more of this
What a great image, Jean Pierre! The fog and black and white really make it dismal, which is appropriate for this subject!

This is very interesting to see your shots of the Project. Starting off with this nice foggy pic. Very good work.

It was interesting to know you have same kind of buildings to live in NY. These multi-apartment houses are very common in my country, actually, they are the majority there, built in late 70ies - 80ies as municipal apartments, distributed for free and considered as first-class. I lived in such kind myself. Horrible feeling, loud voices from everywhere, pigsty... kind of Matrix (gothic beta version), so I understand what you mean.
Thanks for sharing this view, it has nice mood and perspective. I think you chose the fog perfectly to convey the heavy impression of these 'projects'.

If I see this photo it remembers me of the first day that I came to New York and stared out of the window. The rain was pooring down and everything looked sad and cold even though it was summer..

Great post JP,
Very majestic, doesn't seem that low-income, but yes this does seem right.
Very nice POV, adds an interesting feeling to the shot.
The black and white is perfect, completes the shot and the idea behind it.
Fog, always looks great!
