[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my entry for the Old vs. New Spring Scavenger Hunt. It is a shot taken at the Sharp Centre For Design of the Ontario College Of Art & Design in downtown Toronto.

Now, don't believe my title; I don't think the neighbours went crazy. On the contrary, I think this is one of the most exciting buildings built recently (opened in September 2004) in this city. (I have posted a picture giving a better overview in a workshop.)

The remarkable 'table top' superstructure, that takes the form of a parallelepiped (9m high, 31m wide and 84m long), with striking black and white pixellated skin, stands 26 metres above the ground on 12 multi-coloured legs. The structure provides two storeys of studio and teaching space and is connected to the existing facility below by an elevator and stair core that forms the central focus of the newly created entrance hall uniting the two halves of the existing College buildings at all levels.

The Sharp Centre for Design was one of six buildings honoured with the first-ever Royal Institute of British Architects Worldwide Award on June 16, 2004. The unique structure designed, by British architect Will Alsop in a joint venture with Toronto-based Robbie/Young +Wright Architects Inc., was described as "courageous, bold and just a little insane" by the RIBA judges.

Hi Pierre,
un angle extraordinaire pour un immeuble extraordinaire - travaillant moi même dans l'immobilier (promotion immobilière), j'apprécie beaucoup -
Merci et bon week end (je retourne sur Abidjan ce week end)

Hi Pierre, this is crazy, inded. ... and I like it a lot. Great POV. Nice composition and good colours. Great photo.

well that realy is old vs new!nice shot, i like the pov.lightning is good and so are the colours.well done!

Hi Pierre,
Very cool. Nice angle and composition. It almost looks as though the new house is stacked just on top of the old ones. I saw the ws version. I must admit I like that one better as it's more dynamic in composition and all the lit, different colored windows from the new building are very nice to look at. Great capture!

Hello Pierre, I agree with you.. this is a fantastic building. I wasn't sure of the arquitect etc...but you have all the info here. I have a night shot on my TE. It is outstanding isn't it. I like yours as it is so different from other houses we see in that neighbourhood. Thanks

Pour la belle image toute en contraste entre l'ancien et le nouveau.

Pour les couleurs.

Mais surtout, pour m'avoir fait découvrir cet édifice formidable!

very beatiful graphic picture, angle is perfect, light is good for colours. Great.

Hi Pierre,
this comparison of old and new is really impressive. And I am a bit surprised for this different architectonical styles does not create any discord - I was wondering why? Possibly because of clear, sharp, contrasting colours on each of the constructs. Anyways surprising combination. tfs
