Up close and personal with a Moose. Taken on a logging road in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire, this guy was unimpressed with my camera. He looked at me for awhile before turning around and walking away. He is just beginning to grow his antlers for the summer/fall and is loosing his winter coat. Not the most attractive animals this time of year but are truly a magnificiant creature.

Moose Habits
Despite its size, the moose moves silently through the forest, although if frightened they can crash away at speeds of up to 34 mph. This species is an excellent swimmer and frequently wades into lakes and streams to feed on vegetation - often submerging to reach the roots and stems at the bottom. Moose require an estimated 44 lb of food every day.
Moose have a life expectancy of 8 to 12 years in the wild.

Howdy Julie

Good sharpness around the eyes of the moose, with superb use of a shallow dof. I like the dappled light & muted colors. Tfs!

Mooooooooooooooooooooooose! Really nice, I would be afraid of a wild thing this big! 34mph??? Are you kidding? I guess any thought of running from them is dashed! HA! Nice work, I like his sparkly eyes!
B-)

Hi Julie,
Impressive close-up and excellent control of light!
This splendid specimen seems so surprized to encountering you! That had to be reciprocal! :)
Very nicly done! Annie

Hi Julie,

How great that you were able to get so close and that he took the time to look at you.
Lovely with the light and shadows and tree silhouette on his almost-summer coat.
TFS,
Els
