Daniel Lavoie for Martine
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Day 4 - Petite-Vallee Song Festival Time 23:23 hrs|
Another shot captured during the show : Hommage au Passeur - Michel Rivard.
The participants of the festival, accompanied by a panoply of artists unrolled the red carpet to Michel Rivard by taking again the great songs of his repertory and counting anecdotes which marked his career and our memories.
Here Daniel Lavoie was performing with Marie-Claire Séguin ( out of the picture (^_^) ) Both were invited by the Festival to coach the new talents, the rookies how to write songs. ( see the quotation below )
The subject show was at the Grande-Vallée Cultural Center
To learn more , and see images from a pro, let me give you the link to the Official Photographer of the Festival. He was sitting just in front of me that night. Mr Alain Lauzier gallery is available on the web, with all other events. You will see by the way his photos , also that he was signing with marie-Claire Séguin. Note again, we had the same POV . Normal since we were next to each other. LOL!
Technically: Focal at 300 mm . Spotlights on him , I did not have to darkened the background at all. The bright light allowed me to have a better focus and faster shuter speed. Image uncropped. Level adjustments only. Resized and framed.
Note: Daily, the Festival was issuing a Newsletter. When we checked in at the hotel, I took the few issues that were already published.
Daniel Lavoie wrote a little memo following the invitation received to coach the newcomers. I am quoting the translation first , the original french version after:
It has never been easy to make a small place in the unconscious collective. Many are called, and few have the courage to go until the end. The talent, yes, obligatory, but also obsession, the fixed idea, love, passion, the desire and pleasure of making this trade. I arrived there in my own way and I can say to you that was per moment so hard that I wanted all to release, give it up there and to make another thing. I was afraid to lose my heart, my integrity there. I have to sweat to make difficult decisions where there was not good a decision, but was necessary to take one of them nevertheless. I saw this trade of in top and in bottom, the good side and bad. I hated it and all those which work there, but I like it more than I hated it. It is about what I can share. All that. Mountains to be climbed, slaps in the face to absorb at times. I know how much it is necessary TO WANT and how much it is necessary TO WORK. I know that sometimes it is easy yes, but I know that often it is HARD. I can say it from the 40 years the point of view of songs.
Everything changes so quickly in our ‘'Made in Quebec ‘' which, inevitably, follows the modes and the currents of all the planet which, them also change, more and more quickly. I badly see myself saying to newcomers what it is necessary to do. I do not know it. But at the same time, I think that I know it a little. It is a little what I place at your disposal.
Well as I turned 50, on July 2nd, I made myself a little personnal bilan. And Daniel really blew me with this one. I was thinking of my own professional work, my hobbies, and my own personnal life. I could not agree more with him. He touched me deeply.
You can also apply this one to my own vision of my contribution to TL.
Finally, to complete this long but hopefully useful note; Let me add a link to my personnal favorite song written by Daniel Lavoie back from 1983 but performed here in 2005: Ils s'aiment
Have a great week-end !

I do like Daniel's comments - deep but true!
And did I wish you Happy Birthday? I don't think I did - so a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend.
You have captured Daniel really well Robert. The lighting falls on him just right from above and over his shoulder. Very clear focus, and I'm sure Martine is thrilled with this photo

Annie
Now for me, coming from India, I have to confess I know nothing about the singer Daniel Lavoie, and I tried to read the comments but dont know French:)
But about the capture...it is simply outstanding and with lots of original lighting...and details are just supeb with such good timing for capturing the emotion...
Thanks for the notes that help me!

WOW! I am really impressed by the crisp details in this. I think I might have tried to focus on the face instead of the hand with that shallow dof, but I am still impressed:0

Bravo, Yan :)
I didn't know about this singer, but what a nice and sharp portrait this is! Wow, being able to shoot at f/5.6, with low light. But the light hits him really pleasantly. Nice!
Belle photo, ambiance chaude, belle expo, compo.
