Hello friends in TL,

It is hard to find a day without having one of these around my house. The most common dragonfly in Malaysia is this slender skimmer.

Slender Skimmer or Orthetrum sabina is a common and widespread dragonfly found all over Asia and parts of Australia, the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The skimmers or perchers and their relatives form the Libellulidae, the largest dragonfly family in the world. It is sometimes considered to contain the Corduliidae as the subfamily Corduliinae and the Macromiidae as the subfamily Macromiinae. Even if these are excluded (as Silsby does) we are left with a family of over 1000 species. With nearly worldwide distribution these are almost certainly the most often seen of the dragonflies.

The genus Libellula is mostly New World, but also boasts one of the few endangered odonates from Japan - Libellula angelina. Many of the members of this genus are brightly colored or have banded wings. The related genus Plathemis includes the whitetails. The genus Celithemis contains several brightly marked species in the southern United States. Members of the genus Sympetrum are called darters (or meadowhawks in North America), and are found throughout most of the world. Several Southern Hemisphere species in the genera Trithemis and Zenithoptera are especially beautiful. Other common genera include Tramea and Pantala.

Thanks for viewing.

hi Jusni

Nicely captured macro and the style is very much mastered well to show BG blur and bokeh for f/13. Well done.

tfs, bill

Hi Jusni,
Beautiful photo, very sharp,good bg.
Best regards,

Hello Jusni,

Excellent composition with the skimmer and the twig on a parallel diagonal. Good dof.
I love the flimsy beauty of the wings.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Jusni Hi;
Excellent detail and colors with wonderful dof. Thanks for the note, as well.
Congratulatiosn, very well done, my friend, and welcome back.

Like sunsets, flowers, and indeed human models, dragonflies are one of those often-photographed subjects on TrekLens. That's fine because they are often lovely to look at, but it also sets a very high standard because the best are truly astounding.
This shot is ok ... in truth I think it's lacking the sharpness on the body. The light is ok although the colours feel a little subdued. Your background bokeh is perfect.
I've rarely photographed insects because it's so hard to get right ... I think this is ok but I look forward to seeing better from you next time.

i like the prominent green/greenish tone here. perhaps not as sharp as some of your other d'fly images but the presentation here is just lovely.

Hi Jusni,
Beautifully captured ... the beauty of nature gets better to look at closeup range. I like the clarity of details and sharpness of the image. Well captured and composed! tfs

Assalamualaikum Jusni,

I always like your well-written informative notes attaching your photos. Your galleryis what I and Agoes always talk about when we are trying to ID any of our nature subjects. In fact I have a shot of this d'fly but couldn't make a post due to unknown ID.

Well captured d'fly against a nicely muted harmonious green background.

Hi, Jusni!

Hi Jusni
This one is great too in its details

Hello Jusni,

A fine composition, and the macro work is well done!
The point of view leveling the insect works well, and the spot on DoF isolates the subject well...

Hello Jusni
Sorry for the delay to answer your kind words.
I first thought of an after-love scene because the branch can be mistook for a female; see her two eyes half closed and her smile!!!

Hi Jusni,

All black and green and a tiny bit of blue on the head of the dragon fly.

It looks great, despite the resizing down to 800 I can still see littly tiny hairs on both the fly and the branch.

Lovely job, nothing to improve here.

A very strange and beautifully coloured-paterned skimmer Jusni.
You captured it perfectly from lateral POV.
