Sunrise over Rangitoto

Kia ora haere mai !

This morning my first sunrise over New Zealand. Got up at 05:15 and took my first pictures of the awakening new day fifteen minutes later (Janice lives 100 meter from the beach lucky me :-)
Anyway I put my tripod on the beach and start shooting until the sun really has risen, that was about fifteen minutes past six.The wet sand and the running seawater creates an almost surrealistic miniature meander landscape.
At least it's worthy to get up early.

A absolutely coincident was that Jackal posted a picture taken on the same moment of the same sunrise over the same bay near Auckland just a few minutes later check this

Well hope you enjoy this view too.

Tomorrow on of the big days in New Zealand when I hopefully meet a dozen Kiwi Trekkies for a meting and photoshoot in down town Auckland.

Hei konā ra.

PP work: removed some dust bunnies (finally cleaned my sensor this morning), adjusted contrast, brightness and saturation. Cropped, resized, sharpened and add frame.

N./B. Made a classic mistake; the horizon isn't level.... :-(

Although the EXIF file shows December 18th at 18:45 the picture is taken at 05:45 NZ daylight saving time. My camera setting is still on UTC +2 hrs. (CET daylight saving time)

Hi Hans,
Very impressive first two shots from New Zeland. This one has fantastic colours and beautiful landscape behind. The clouds on the sky are exposed well, too. Keep it up, looking foreward to seeing more! :) Have a nice trip!

Hello Hans,

How I envy you ... N.Z. is certainly a place I would love to visit.
What a wonderful shot!
A great textural f/g to lead the eyes rapidly towards the water, the amber coloured horizon with its silhouetted hills and then the textured sky which, curiously, matches the f/g.

I look forward to your next posts.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Very good light and colors.
Well composed. Well done!

Hola Hans,
beautiful golden tones,
pov and exquisite presentation ...
The second photo is also excellent,
Good holiday in that beautiful country.
saludos amigo.

Beautiful sunrise Hans and very well captured.. Interesting how even though the horizon bisects the middle the whole composition is well layered into classic 'thirds'.
Lovely colour too..

Hi Hansie
I wish I could see beautiful sunrises like this every day. The problem is that they are just too early for me!!!
What a lovely scene and the colours are so vibrant.
I do like the patterns in the sand made by the water receding.
And what a shame Jack / Jackal hadn't stopped at Murrays Bay this morning, as he took his photo only 3 kms away.
It's great to have you here.

An awesome sunrise, Hans !
Enjoy your time, enjoy life there!
Kind regards, a Brazilian hug,
so far away!

Goh... je zal toch zo wonen........ ;-)

Hi Hans,

This photo really sends the feeling that I need to see a sunrise over the beach every morning. The feeling from the photo itself is "awestruck" by the beauty. I can only imagine being there enjoying the scene. The gold tones are beautiful as are the layers of colors. Yes the horizon isn't perfectly level, but you can just blame it on "jet lag" :) Lisa

woooow.. Hans..
i reakky envy you.. you are at the other part of the world.. and in wonderful places!! striking light here.. with an incredible sight.. landscape and reflection of light are unic!! it's so intense.. i'm speachless.. thanks
ciao Marco

Hi Hans,
Quite a Coincidence taking the same shot at almost the same time and you coming half way round the world to do it. It was a beautiful scene and you have captured it well.
I hope you brought a few memory sticks for all these photographs, looking forward to seeing them - enjoy your trip

Hi Hans,
Happy holidays!

Hi Hans, You make this spot look very good indeed. The secret may be in the early hour you arose into action. Leaning some Maori phrases too, good on you! Look forward to seeing more photos of my original homeland. TFS. Murray.

Hoi Hans,
