Lord of the Rings landscape

I'm a big fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of the trilogy "Lord of the Rings". So when I went to New Zealand I was quite thrilled to see the landscape which was shown in this movie of the LOTR. To be honest I wasn't disappointed at all. As well on the North Island as on the South Island I felt like I was in Middle Earth. The green hills and volcanoes, the snowy Alps, the dry plains and the mountains and hills in Otago it all was like I felt like Frodo.

When I visited Queenstown, I joined a "Lord of the Rings" safari. While leaving in the early morning the trip lead me to the foot of the The Remarkables, a mountain ridge near Queenstown. From that hill a awesome view unfolded at the early morning light. The hill at the right hand the hill which is shown in the LOTR and many other movies.

Anyway I really enjoyed the safari and took tons of images.

PP work: adjusted contrast, brightness and saturation. Removed noise from the sky with noise filter. Resized and sharpened.

Hi Hans,
You present us with such a beautiful landscape precisely at the moment that I'm in the mood of going for a very long walk!
Amazing scenery, colors and texture.

hi twin,
this is not unlike the highlands of scotland.

you have had a great view of this rugged landscape. it is almost prehistoric.
it is easy to see why you seem to have fallen in love with it.

nicely composed and exposed.

One of the (many) things I liked about the LOTR movies was the scenery. This is so beautiful - you can almost imagine little Frodo tramping through the hills. Great shot Hans.

Hi Hans,
This is "precious"...)))
Nice shot.
Well exposed, good contrast and rich saturated colours. Could it be tilted CW a bit? or is it just and illusion?
Still a fine looking image.

beautiful landscape, sharp and detailed all around Hans, well saturated image overlooking the reiver and mountains.Fine posting my friend.TFS as always.

WOW! Perfect F16 shot Hansie! I did alot of practice this weekend with F16! I love the rich color! Nice view, amazing landscape, sharp as a tack!

Hello Hans,

Beside being a huge fan too of the superb movie Trilogy, I am also a big fan of the huge enthousiasm from the Kiwis who joined this massive production. I did enjoy the movies, but to watch all the documentaries related to the making of are even more captivating.

This immense project was a great success, and is a superb exemple of a top notch teamwork from all departments ( production, costumes, animal trainers, actors , technical teams, choregraphs, artists, settings technicians, cameramen, etc..... This Masterpiece from J.R.R. Tolkien could not have been better materialized .

About the photo. I would lie if I would say I recognize that hill (^_^). But the scenery is quite well composed here. Post card quality.
Looking forward discovering Middle earth through your next posts (^_^).

Hi Hans,
this is a beautiful view, the water is so blue, the mountains so impressive, I like this landscape, thanks for sharing it with us

Hi Hans,
great clarity in this shot, the words from the pop group The Who sprung to mind
"I can see for miles and miles"
Beautiful sky

Hoi Hans,
Zou er inderdaad zo kunnen zijn opgenomen !
Super de luxe mooi zeg. Zowel het landschap als de registratie er van.

I see you more as Gandalf than Frodo....
Stunning scenery really well captured - such vivid colours and sharp details throughout the frame. Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing

He Hans,
Ik was niet bij the Lord of the Rings excursie, maar door deze foto heb ik niet het idee dat ik iets gemist heb en alsof ik zelf bij was. Heel mooi beeld van LOFR-country..

Hi Hans, Your NZ series is wonderful and this one fits the theme you mention. The high POV shows such a broad and varied landscape. The blue waters are particularly appealing. TFS. Murray.

Beautiful shot and weather. I agree with Trampas that the scenery is not unlike that of the Highlands in Scotland especially the North West Highlands around the Kyle Of Lochalsh. Where it does differ is the weather. If weather like this could be guaranteed people would flock to the Highlands. I am an Englishman so I am definitely not prejudiced.
You have some wonderful shots of NZ and I look forward to seeing more. TFS
warm regards

Hoi Hansie
You would have passed many LOTR spots on your travels over NZ.. BTW they never filmed in Auckland.
Super scene - those brown hills look like they need some rain. But nice green pastures

Very cool title and notes.. Sounds like you had a very good time with our DownUnder friends...

the light is really nice.. I keep looking and looking so much to see..
