A special frame

An experiment. Took this picture in Napier, a town in New Zealand at the Hawkes Bay. Looking through an opening in the arcade at the waterfront. The stong shadows and the emerald sea created an attractive view which I tried to capture.

I took several shots., but an apperture of f/13.0 and a shutter speed of 1/250 this one appeare the best for me. Took this shot in the afternoon (approximately 3 o'clock) with the sun still high at the sky.

Give me your contention, what to do to improve this picture? Your opinion is valuable for me.

Hi Hans,
that's indeed a nice frame, I like the result.
And I love the blue and green colours of the sea, wonderful, I'd like to jump into the water right now ;-)
Thanks and have a good start into the new week,
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Hello Hans

A frame into a frame... Excellent idea.
Good shot, very graphic and esthetic shadows.
Well seen and light is well managed.
Fantastic capture.

My best regards

très graphique et ensoleillé..

Bonjour Hans,

My opinion? I think it works really well. Love the simplicity and colors of the "picture" within your frame. My first inclination was to suggest that maybe you should have cropped out the two other "windows" on the left, but on second thought, it might be too symmetrical without them. And the person walking on the beach is a nice addition on that side. Love the strong lines/shadows in the foreground. Nice one Hans.

Hi Hans :-)
I really like this. I've tried similar shots and never succeeded in doing them. You managed to do it just right. I love the shadows and the contrast of the beautiful bluegreen water and a touch of the surf. Nicely done.

Well if you had Janice sitting on the seat, and me poking my head through the window there, it would be MUCH more interesting...LOL

I know this place well, and its so lovely to wander around there, and through the gardens.

You have managed the light pretty well, and caught that person on the left in a frame, and good composition of the group of people in the main frame there... just to nit pick, you could have cropped just a tiny bit from the bottom to tidy it up a bit.

Lovely art deco town... Napier.

The use of this as a natural frame is a superb idea, and 10/10 for spotting the potential for this. What I would suggest though is that if this is the "frame" then the picture could do with a subject and a focal point. I'd also suggest cloning out the people, as they don't really add much (to me anyway). I've created a small ws just to give my thoughts some reality - hope you don't mind.
Thanks for sharing

Hallo Hans,

Prachtig, heel mooi gezien.
Groetjes, Marga

amazing shot Hans.
the quandrangle and the parallelogram are perfect.
awesome composition and superb result.

Great pic, looks as if you're watching it on a huge LCD TV. Nice shooting.

Hi Hansie! GREAT idea here, I might have gone CLOSER, to make the framed area smaller, because the water is actually the desire here! But actually this works well too..I like the lines on the ground, they act as a lead in! B-)Linda

Nice composition!
I like it!

I know where you are here - we must go back to Napier one day.
And I hope you had a walk on the beach - did you see what the Napier natives call sand? Big large pebbles!!
This scene looks like a concrete jungle Hans - I don't think you can improve it - too much concrete - apart from standing on the shore to take the photo. But what a pretty picturesque window it is.

Hi Hans,
Lovely seascape with a nice naturel frame on the sea,
Excellent POV. and DOF. well presented and composed as usual with great colours and details.
Excellent done..

Hello Hans,

I do like this.
It shows quite clearly the importance of light and shadows, in photography. I particularly like the curved shadow around the pillar. This also draws attention to the off-centredly positioned person.
Lovely composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

I don't think this photo needs improvement. It has strong lines which draw the viewer into the photo to end with a very nice view of the shore. I see a triptych in it of two small (divided by the pole) and one big picture. Also very good to have that figure on the left. It draws your attention.
So in general, a simply photo with a great attraction. Congrutaltions, Hans!

Goed gezien zeg !

groetjes, willemien

Very unusual work from you it looks very like a keen composition and the lines in it are nice and strait(strak ;]])

Ciao Hans.

Hi Hans,

I like how you have kept the inside of the building dark enough that the waste basket & other subjects don't distract our eye from that wonderful green ocean .The dark shadows & grey post & floor are a great balance with the backgrounds light colours.Since I can't see who the people are on the sand
I found them just a tad distracting so did a WS to clone them out.The single figure to the left is great, as it gives a real sense of balance, you asked for an opinion my friend, so this is my one,let me know what you think please.

Hi Hans,
For me, this is a good experiment! This is like a window on a dream!
I think that your large frame using the arcades is a good choice for enhancing the anticipation (or to delay the pleasure) to be on the beach and water! To keep human elements is good for me too, because this gives a sense of reality at this dreamy image. Then, I can believe to be there one day! :)
Very well done! Annie

Hi Hans, the composition of this photo is really different and for me this carries the photo as the sea view is really boring. Just my thoughts.

Greetings Hansi ;)))
special and beautiful view...Compliments,
J ;)

Hello, Hans,
now, I love this shot. I am a huge fan of good lines and angles and you did a great job seeing them here. I particularly like those strong shadows in the FG and those marvelous colors of the ocean. I like the way you caught the person walking in a smaller frame, too. The ONLY thing I might have done was clone out the greenish lines in the shadows so the eye would've gone straight through. This is a superb view, though and very well done! Many thanks and kind regards,
