Rust in piece

Just playing with words: Rest in Peace or Rust in peace, but I like this title. Anyway a rusty chain, captured at a previous gold mine in Thames (say Tims) in the Coromandel in New Zealand.

The lack of light forced me to chose for a shallow DOF, but afterwards I like the result.
I'm curious what your opinion is.

In addition to the first critiques, yes it is a crop , about 75% of the total, used the jpeg image here and on purpose left the noise. Consider it a an artist impression of rust. Your opinion is really important, I want to know how such a experiment is seen by good photographers!

Something we don't often see from you Hans, macro stuff.. Actually I like this photographically with the narrow DOF - has more impact than fully sharp through the frame when you shoot this close.. Obviously a high ISO has led to quite a lot of noise but then again that can be artistic!!
What's the white hair like line on the bottom left link - or is it just that? Hair..

Nice play of words for the title..

David

I like your play on words Hansie! Nice DOF on this..I like it better than a deep one, it gives depth to the shot. My only problem would be the noisey BG! The BG is the NICEST part of this, but too noisey. I'll do a WS. I LOVE RUST...very nice colors, I like the bits of blue, purple, pink, red, orange...wonderful details!
B-) B-) for that!
Linda

Hi Hans, I like the DOF,takes the eye right into the rust, which has great detail & sharpness, one gets the feeling that if you were to touch it, it would crumble apart.

This is the kind of shot that grabs my attention - closeup, detailed macro. Interesting to see how those two chain links have almost become one from the oxidation. Great observation Hans.
Trudy

Hi Hans, really great details, good shot. congratullations.

HA!!
Rust never sleeps!!
It is quite amazing how the chain just rots away like this. And it changes into so many colours too.
Are you too close or have you cropped off a lot from this photo? Not quite in focus and a bit noisy I think.
NZ has a lot of rusty items!! Maybe too must salt water in the air!!
Still, quite eye-catching
Janice

Hi Hans
Nice shot with good note
I like the details here and the composition
There are some noise seems like old photographs grains, perhaps you've did it on porpose. TFS

Love the detail and sharp resolution of this shot Hans. The crumbling old iron is so well captured. I really like the shallow DOF, it's the kind of shot I'd like to do.

Iron is amazing stuff. The last of the elements to be formed by fusion, it is created in stars and eventually causes the star itself to collapse on itself and then explode, scattering the iron out into the universe. A long journey, ending in this decay.

What a thought for the morning.

Hallo Hans,

Zo, daar ligt een hoop roestig verval, mooi gedetaileerde foto met natuurlijke kleuren. Weer heel wat anders dan een landschapsfoto zoals we de laatste tijd gewend zijn. Mooi!

groetjes, Marga

Its always interesting to take photos of such things like this HansJust imagine how old this must be!..and the history of such a thing.

Nice colours here Hans, but think it lakes a bit of sharpness due to your 1/30.

Have a good day
Cheers
Dawn.

Good one Hans, the DoF is spot-on, well spotted

TFS Hans
Groetjes
Jan

Hi Hans, I like the clarity of this close-up of the rusty link. Shows how even the best things than man produces has a short life compared to nature itself. I have seen a similar one of an old door lock, but it is the clarity of this which is better. TFS. Murray.
