Taken from 35000' as an Airbus 380 passes 2000' below on it's way to Sydney.. Not easy getting a good shot through my 'forward' side window as the windshield is sloping so leading to aberration of the image. There is also a very fine layer of heating elements so have to try to position the lens correctly.

It's overtaking us because it's flying at Mach 0.86 (86% of the local speed of sound) and we're only doing Mach 0.83.. Nice view of the 'whale' though.

RAW, cropped, increase contrast and sharpened.

1/800sec at F5.6 and ISO 125..

Hello David! Wonderful POV, amazing composition, perfect exposure, ideal sharpness. Great effect. Well done!

wow, what a POV and what a capture !!!

ps.On my monitor the white of the plane is a bit too bright and so I've played a bit. See WS

Tex would be so proud!! I like this extreme composition, the clouds seem to be almost exactly where you'd want them. I flew on Singapore Air's A380 last week and they are a "turbulent" piece of work....I enjoyed it though. I appreciate the level difficulty here.
Not much I could offer in the way of improvements.
Well done,

grt shot David realy clear details must have been a tough one to take but you have it spot on the button fantastic work tfs
regards bryan

Hi David,
Considering where you took this from, a really good photo. To me it looks to be awfully close to you! I had a chance to get close to on of these in Toronto few months ago. Amazing machine.

Wow! This is a photo op that few of us will ever have! Despite all the obstacles you described in taking this, you managed to get a great shot of the passing Airbus - it looks like a monster of a plane. Very nicely placed within the frame.
I'm not a fan of flying .. but still, I find the shots of your work fascinating.

Hi David,

This is not something that many of us will ever get a chance to photograph. Thanks for providing the details of your shot, particularly the challenges. Excellent sharpness and the clouds really cooperated here. TFS

Didn't think you could see 'whales' from 35000'! - it looks closer than 2000' but then again it is a big plane. Nicely positioned in the frame and real sharp

One word....

A W E S O M E !!!

(Looks mighty close to my eye-kind of scary isn't it?) :) Lisa

Bonjour David,

Nice shot. Of course I cannot not mention an interesting POV. At this angle it looks lot better than the one I can make my two feet on the ground. Amazing sharpness, let me know the brand of your wippers, I need the same on my car. Just kidding, but effectively, shooting thrue a plane window you got an amazing clarity. And of course good exposure, what else would you expect from Nikon and David Jessop? Finally element have been well organize for a balanced composition. Good work and TFS.

I prefer this to the workshop, the workshop has produced too much noise in the clouds which has spoilt it.

You did very well to get such a clear shot throught the window.

Great notes, thanks.

Ok I'm impressed by this one - really! When planes pass it's not a leisurely affair, they whizz by - so being able to get it so right.

Gosh! I do like that! It's wonderfully clear considering what you have to photograph through, and great colour too. That's a nice 'plane to fly in too...

Edited just to add that, actually, that's a stunner of a photo!

Hi David,
Not many have the change to get a A380 from the top while flying. Great stuf capt'n :-) Although a bit bluish a great image.

BTW only M 0.83? :-)

Hello David.
Awesome! Great shot and this how I always wants to see airplanes.
Well managed focus through the window.
Great shot.

Bonjour David.
Quelle chance de pouvoir faire de telle image, j’aime beaucoup.
Une photo spectaculaire. Bravo.
Bonne soirée et bon vol.

Hi David, A very classy photograph and so sharp and clear compared to many taken through a window. The colours on the tail and the name of the airline are excellent. I suggest if you send it to their PR dept they may be interested in buying this from you. Good work. Murray.

hello David,
This is a great shot, never mind the obstacles you had to overcome to get it. Well composed, with a perfect POV and colour.
You do get some great photo ops.
have a good weekend, Joni

Hi David,

The aircraft is well placed in the frame. The luminosity has a good effect on the colors. I think it would have been better if the aircraft was bigger in the frame. An extra shot of USM would have been good. Have a nice day.

Thanks to your windshield I am guessing that is why the OE on the body of the aircraft, and also the abundance of blue in the image. Just for my own personal benefit I will try and workshop on this to see if I can overcome the color saturation and OE. Not to say your image isn't good, it is. If my workshop doesn't work, I won't post it.

You have done a wonderful job and I am sure only you can do it.nice sharpness on the mentioned speeds.

Hi David,
An absolutley superb capture on the right side of the plane at the right time, STUNNING.
Regards Arnie.

Should be used for your Company's adverts literature/brochures... Superbly captured and the "whale" looks great in Emirates Livery.... as opposed to ughh Lufthansa; nice airline... but drab livery... I'd like to fly Emirates everyone that flies on y'all say its top-shelf... thats no bs either, mate! Now u be flyin' the massive whale... but man, oh man what a feelin' flyin the largest commercial passenger aircrafty in the world!

Hi David, congrats on a wonderful photo! I have tried to shoot from plane windows many times but never got anything like this!

Hello David,
Excellent photo under the circumstances with nothing that I can fault it by. How many passengers does the double decker take?
