Shotover Jet

It's a strange name for a river: Shotover but on this river in New Zealand near Queestown this jet boat rages with staggering speed over the water surface and along the rocks at the shore, inches from the rocky walls. The ride is quite thrilling I can assure you. Took this shot in the canyon of the river while my travel companions were enjoying the ride.

PP work: shot in RAW, adjusted brightness and contrast, exposure and saturation, all minor adjustments. Converted to jpeg and adjusted level and curves, used unsharpen mask (150%, 0,5 pixels), cropped and resized. Finally add small frame.

Hans
Wonderful capture to this strange named river!
Great stone, lovely details and colors.
Congratulation!
Horia

Nice view Hans - caught the action well.. Good colour, fast shutter to freeze the water.. I'd have probably wanted to place the boat more to the right of the frame but definitely an interesting shot. But I knoe it's not easy to always get the subjects where you want them..

Got to have a go at this one day!!!

Cheers
DAvid

Hello Hans, a shot full of drama; those huge rocks look very intimidating!
The bright red boat stands out really well and immediately attracts attention.
The spray, the angle of the boat and the closeness of the rocks make an impressive shot.
I like the tight composition with no sky to distract us.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Great shot - this could go in a brochure on tourism in NZ. Composition, sense of movement and speed, and the proportions of subject to context are all spot-on.
A little pixelly and ghosty in parts, the sharpening may have been a little much ...?

Hy Hans,
Nice action shot with this fast boat 'shotover Jet'
'Caught me if you can'...with many peoples aboard,
I love the colors of the water and the rock,
very well done.

WOW! I want to do this! What a fun time that would be! The red stands out REALLY well here Hansie! Nice and sharp, the spray behind the boat is awesome! Great job here!

Hi Hans!

It sounds like you are a busy fella. I'll never get to travel much, but in a way, I still get to see wonderful sites here on TL, and I'm thankful for this.

Hey, this looks like New Zealand Jack, aka jackal, driving this boat. You've captured a great action shot here. Your D70 froze that boat. Very well done!

Hello Hans, great action shot! You snapped it at just the right moment, great technique! Thanks!

I doubt if anyone would ever get me to ride a thing like that, but I must say that the view is really spectacular Hans.
Great colors and excellent details, specially in the splashing water... COOOOOL shot!

Cheers,
Anneke

Classic tourist brochure shot Hans. You have used the rocks as a natural frame and the plume of water from the wake of the boat is great. Well done.

Hello Hans - Great action shot! Good color and sharpness. I like the unique blue color of the water.
