Just to get that "Christmas feeling"

So in the Netherlands we kicked out Sinterklaas and opened our door for Christmas. When checking my Christchurch botanic garden pictures I encountered this red-white rose and created a kind of Christmas feeling in me. We before getting sentimental I decided to post this image.

I took this with a bit weird camera setting : f/5.6 (on purpose to create a shallow DOF), 1/2000 is a bit over the top, but I remember it was quite windy that day and did want to freeze the core of the rose. the 400ASA doesn't make sense, I just forgot to decrease it to the maximum value of 200ASA.

PP work: Shot in RAW and adjusted exposure, brightness, vibrance and clarity, all minor adjustments. Converted to jpeg and adjusted levels and curves. Used unsharpen mask (150%, 0,8 pixels and a threshold of 3) resized and add frame.

Hi Hans!

I like the feeling!

I'm new at this. Will you help me understand why I would want to shot in RAW, make adjustments and then convert to jpeg?

Hi Hans,

Wonderful macro and nice feelings are shown through this great work! I like the very natural colors of the rose with perfect sharpness and from a well chosen POV. The staminae of the flower are wonderfully shown.
Great composition!

best regards,

Wonderful colors to this great rose!
The sharpness of the details are fantastic.

Wonderful flower, Hans - and a perfect idea because I realy don't have any Christmas-feelings this year. Snow is melting away, I haven't heared Christmas-songs yet, time is running too fast.
So thanks, enjoy the sunday

Hi Hnas,

The colors definitely evoke a feeling of Christmas. Nicely exposed, pin sharp and nice shallow DOF. It's nice to know that there are others who forget to reset their ISO ;)) Yesterday I forgot to remove my polarizer on a couple of shots:(

Have a nice Sunday!

Hoi Hans,

Hello Hans - Outstanding image control! Beautiful Christmasy colors from an unexpected source. The note is also very useful and informative.
Have a good day,

Hello Hans, yes it does give one a feeling of Christmas. The colours are beautiful.

Merry Christmas to you Hansie. Yes, the colours do make the rose look very festive.
You have 'frozen' it well, and the colours jump out of the frame
Well done

Hi Hans, It is a beautiful flower. I like the buds in the background too. Nice deep greens that certainly go with the red color for Christmas. Lisa

Hello Hans, very good macro of this beautiful flower, well composed, sharp and a well managed lighting. Good job!

Hello Hans,
Very nice rose, different from the usual ones.It seems a wild rose, with not so many petals and the mixture of red and white. It gives a fresh and special feeling....
Have a nice Sunday !
