A low perspective of the Washington National Cathedral as one enters the main gate. Photographed in 2008 (thanks Mushtaq Hussain), tech settings are ISO 200, f/11, and 1/2 sec plus tripod. PP work included exposure balancing in Photomatix followed by slight desaturation and further tweaking of colors and exposure in Photoshop. After posting, I noticed a slight tilt to the right - bummer..

The Washington National Cathedral, officially called the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and second largest in the United States. The church is located at Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues in the northwest quadrant of Washington. It is the third on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.

Its final design shows a mix of influences from the various Gothic architectural styles of the Middle Ages, identifiable in its pointed arches, flying buttresses, a variety of ceiling vaulting, stained-glass windows and carved decorations in stone, and by its three similar towers, two on the west front and one surmounting the crossing. Wow! Very impressive looking place. Fantastic colors in there from all the lights, and the banners and the great floor. Great unobstructed view down this aisle. (it seems to have a slight right lean, or is that just me?)

Hi Danilo,
Very impressive post. Taking inside of churches can be very tricky- you've managed your settings perfectly. This is a gorgeous shot, the colors and details are really nice. Good POV leading right down the alter. Nicely done ! TFS Julie

Hi Danilo,

Wow, the architecture and colors are stunning. The fact that you had to desaturate is interesting in and of itself. Nice composition, and it's great that they allow tripods.

Have a nice weekend, hope you didn't get too much snow.

Werner

Hi, Danilo -
This is quite a striking architectural image; the combination of the unusually bright colors (for the inside of a cathedral) and the wonderful Gothic details is marvelous. I have posted a similar one quite some time ago (also called "Cathedral Symmetry," I believe) of the Cathedral de Notre Dame de Lausanne, but this one is more interesting in many respects. I must say that the slight tilt is mildly bothersome, but the overall image is great. Well done.

Hi Danilo,
Beautiful mystic shot..
Nice colours and details.
Perspective is excellent.tfs.

Hello Danilo,

I was most surprised by the brightness of the colours.
I have never been in a church with such welcoming 'merriment'; I wanted to say gaity but that has different connotations nowadays!
The sharpness, as a result of using the tripod, is excellent, as is the symmetrical composition. (Probably no-one would have perceived the slight tilt had you not been so honest!)

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Danilo!

WOOOOOOW! Lovely presentation of this marvelous architecture. It is so much a beautiful perspective of this Cathedral. Great selection of frame.
Nice details, colors, texture and a good DOF.

Dear Danilo,

Sorry, missed this one - don't know how?

A wonderful capture from this gorgeous Cathedral with such great piece of artwork and architecture. Truly speaking, I have never seen such a colorful church before.

The sharpness, the POV and the clarity throughout the picture, is splendid. The colors are so natural and very well defined through this exceptional composition. Very well done!

Have a nice weekend!

best greetings,
Paras

Hello Danilo Martinez,

Another wonderful shot of yours like always, very good capture and presentation of this artistic architecture, great vivid colors and patterns, nice lighting and sharpness, the uniformity in the design forms lovely patterns and the disappearing designs generates good DOF.
A very well captured one.

Hi Danilo

I somehow missed this one. Well managed interior light with splendid use of diminishing linear perspective & vanishing point. Good color & reasonable sharpness. Tfs!
