[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
8 years ago i visited this little gem of a place called the Faroe islands , an autonomous territory of the Danish Kingdom with its own flag and language ( Faroese ---similar to Icelandic , the islanders speak Danish very well , English is also widely spoken ) , it is situated in the North Atlantic " lost" somewhere between Iceland and Norway .I dreamed of discovering in my own way what few Europeans in a normal year visit and ever think much about them . One mysterious place akin to the Aleutians or the Falklands that most would be hard-pressed to find on a map , let alone aspire to visit indeed , true they receive little press but one thing i know though is that i was not prepared for the undeniable beauty of the Faroese landscape . A move i have never regretted .You do not come for the wonderful weather , oooooh no the weather is absolutely unpredictable , i was able to verify that on the spot ! Summer is your best bet if you consider going !
Briefly i would describe the islands as dominated by mountains and grass-covered valleys , the sea is ever present, you are never more than 5 kms from it anywhere you stand on land , no wonder fishing is the most important activity and source of income for the Faroeses , sheep raising , farming and a little industry like fish processing complete the work scene . Torshavn is the capital and has less than 17.000 people living in it , Klasvik on another island to the east is the other town worth mentioning , more like an overgrown village to me , the airport is 1 1/2 hour away on Vagar island to the west . I enjoyed the Faroe islands very much for its stunning landscapes and the hiking is excellent in fine weather that is !
This picture represents the well-positioned tiny village of Eidi , well i climbed a low hill to get this shot , its location is on the northwest tip of Eysturoy island which is accesed by a bridge linking it to Streymoy , another island , yes another one to the west where the capital is .
Converted to B&W , played with levels ,increased exposure as it was a gloomy day , sharpened and framed,

Fascinating image - it looks almost 3-dimensional. The village is so sharp in the foreground with the nicely blurred mountains in the background. The b&w gives it a classic and timeless feel. Great work.

Un drôle de feeling vient avec cette photo....!
Tout d'abord je l'adore en noir et blanc....
Le côté de "petitesse" de ce village au pied de ces majestueuses montagne est remarquable......et finallement le côté si ordonné...si propre..si "clean" de cet endroit est peu être un trait caractéristique que ces habitants...?

Une photo qui surprend....qui attire mon attention...et qui mériterait beaucoup plus d'attention....

P.s:...c'est pas ordinaire, lorsque je veux me rendre pour voir le total de toutes tes photos.....je dois jouer de la roulette sur ma souris...tellement il y a d'endroit visités.....Mon doigt s'en remettera....mais pas ma "jalousie"..... alors va.....et photographie pour moi toutes ces merveilleuses place....

Like the atmosphere of the photo Carol.
It was worth the climb !

" But " I think the contrast and saturation could be improved.
Even if was a gloomy day.
My best guess, but I only have an idea in PS CS4 is
- first convert it to B/W in the RAW convertor
- play with the colours slides ( this info is still available ) to
get some contrast ie between red and green, different kinds of green, ...
If you don't have a RAW convertor or no PS CS4
then you're in trouble because I have to think harder :-))
