Hippo attack

During my trip through the Chobe National Park in Botswana I did a game sail on a little boat. The views were awesome and I observed several wild animals, like this Hippo who became a little bit annoyed about my visit. I don't know why, maybe he's a C*n*n user or so. Anyway, I was quite relieved when the boats man decided to back up to create a better comfort zone between this big fella and the other behind the Nikon :-)

The time-frame from picture nr. 1 till nr. 9 is 6 seconds! [16:50:27 - 16:50:33]

I'm not a professional wild life photographer so theses shots are not superbly sharp, but in my opinion a series worthy to show.

Shoot....

N.B. Exif files were lost due the crop, cut and paste actions. Below the exif of the main picture which were all shot with the same shutter speed (1/250 sec) and ISO of 640ASA. The light conditions were very poor, it was late in the afternoon, so I wished the shutter speed was a bit faster.

Hello Hans,

Although I usually like to see a single shot posted, in this case, the series makes perfect sense; it starts with tranquility and builds up to incredible drama! The focussed attention on that increasingly widening mouth, with the extra detail of the turbulent water, really creates the atmosphere.
Was your heart rate up as you took these shots?
I would imagine so!

You are having one incredible holiday!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bom dia Hans,
Ha, ha, ha and HA, HA.
Clever shot and sequence. Ho paura!

haha! Very funny fat fellow! Nice grouping Hans, a good way to show all shots of this guy! He seems mad...he he! Don't get too close, you would make a nice breakfast for him! Yes, wildlife pics are hard.
B-)

Hello Hans

Great show of the this upset monster of the river. He does look a little upset. I like it. Maybe a training image for CNN reporters. HEHEHE

Hi Hans,

I love wildlife shots, and this sequence is great. I usually prefer single postings too, but a collage is very appropriate for the action here. A scarey and dangerous predicament that you captured very well. And according to the Christmas song (I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas), they're supposed to be vegetarians. Who would have thought???

TFS,
Werner

Hi Hans

As a personal rule I don't critique multiple shots - I find the task of offering feedback on each individual frame is too much work!!

So I'll just say - a fine series, amazing sequence, and conceivably terrifying.

Hi Han, I like to see wild life nature photos and heard Hippos cause more harm to humans more than any other animals each year, unsure if you had heard that during your trip? I like the sequence and the colours are very realistic. A very good series to show how seeing wildlife live rather than the normal way on a TV documentary. Glad you survived this action encounter. TFS. Murray.

hahahah nice 3x3 sequence :)

You made me laugh
