Thunder in the sky

No, not today...still clear skies over Holland, but there's "thunder in the sky" ...anxious waiting to get in to the air with our aircrafts, quite an frustrating situation.

So had to relieve my "anger" and found a picture which I took last year on Pentecost evening from my balcony at my apartment in Haarlem during a violent thunderstorm.

Hope this will help to clear the skies over Europe...although I doubt it.

PP work: not much, shot in raw, converted to jpeg, adjusted levels and curves, small crop

Nice example of a long night exposure Hans to capture several bolts of lightning... A weather event we don't see too much of here in Dubai!! And usually I'm in bed when the storms hit anyway!

Good sharpness. Pity there's not more in the foreground in the way of lights or buildings to add to the scene, but still a nice shot...

Cheers
DAvid

Hi Hans,
An excellent MOOD photo. Great details in these bolts of lightening. Nice clarity and contrast. Wishing you clear skies sooon ! Well done on this. TFS Julie

Hello ,
What a beauty, great sharpness, superb light, very well composed. Hpefully the volcano ash is now washed out
have a nice day,
Achim

One of the most dramatic and impressive lightning shots I've seen on Treklens. You've caught the exposure very well with the lightning bolts clear and well defined. Nice silhouettes at ground level with the trees/bushes. Top shot!

And I share your frustrations at the air situation - had to cancel a trip to the UK :-(

This is something I've never attemtped Hans .. shooting lighting. Besides capturing several consecutive lighting bolts, you've also really captured the mood of a storm in the dark of night. I like the inclusion of the horizon. I love a good thunder storm :)
Hope your skies clear soon
Trudy

Hi Hans,

The POV here is just awesome, a capture hard to take.
I'm still not sure about the right technique to capture lightnings, maybe you can give some details.
The f/16 revealed the lightnings perfectly.
Nicely composed with the horizon.
Congrats on you great capture and TFS.

Best regards,
scubli

Hi Hans
great action shot.very nice sharpness and detail.well done!
Anna

Hello Hans,

This is quite a remarkable shot!
The long exposure has captured many lightning bolts, and with fine clarity against the purple sky.
I like the composition, with minimum attention to the ground, just a landing base for the lightning bolts!
I find it particularly interesting how the lightning is moving behind the tree. (Or is it in the tree?).

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Great moment.Congratulation.
Zoran

I will add this as one of my favorite snaps.

Thanks for sharing. Its hard to get the timings right!!! You've won.

Leaving the shutter open had its reward - amazingly so. You captured an incredible display of forked lightning, a fascinating moment of nature.

No criticism really - maybe the frame, and I also suspect that the shot is cropped a little tightly, I actually think more space would do the shot artistic justice ... but that's just me. :)

Boa tarde Hans

Very spectacular shot Hans! Technically it's very well done and the silhouetted trees makes a good foreground. I really like the 'electric' colors all over it. Very impressive.

Sjee, dit is een prachtige plaat Hans... al die vertakkingen van de bliksem zijn prachtig te zien en toch heel subtiel. Een heel mooie plaat!!

Gr., Anneke

That is amazing Hans! To even capture it this close is a major fear-factor! And it's super sharp! I would not have wanted to hear the BOOOOOMM after that! Wonderful shot!

Bonjour Hans,
Merci pour vos visites.

Quelle chance de pouvoir réaliser une telle capture!!!
Grands détails de ces serpentins, comme des fleuves et ses affluents. Superbes arabesques.
Subtiles ombres chinoises des arbres. Mes compliments pour cette présentation.
Belle journée.
Yolande.
