[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Last evening I decided to walk away from the boring TV and try to capture one of the more attractive buildings in my city. There aren't many, so it is a bit of a search. I also noticed on my scout for nice architecture that the city of Almelo doesn't use great nighttime lighting. Good for the neighbors of the building but a pity for a guy like me.

This is school building which was build in 2007 by Royal Haskoning Architecten, Amsterdam. The costs for the building was 28.250.000,. The architect calls this building a 'groundscraper'. It does not contrast with the neighboring buildings on lower level but allows for a more high-rise where it can.

I am not a huge fan of HDR but with this kind of complex exposure I didn't have a better way out then HDR and tone mapping. I have tried to minimize the effect as good as I can but still feel that there are certain areas that are not right. I might just try a more traditional way in the future.

All photos @ F/22 speeds were: 2,5sec, 5sec, 10sec and 20sec.

Update Just added a more traditional treated version as a WS.

Hi Niek

The extreme wide focal lenght you have used gives this a wonderful distorted perspective.

The majic f22 has given the street lights nice star effects.

Good use of the available light but the HDR has produced a small amount of haloing but no biggy.

Well done

Hello Niek,

I have never used a lens which creates this effect but, wow, it is interesting and works well on this building, which already possesses a curiously shaped upper storey! The blue-hour mood adds a lot to the overall effect of the shot. It is just the tree that, for me, doesn't quite work as it appears to have little blurred areas of lens flare.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Niek

This is a very nice photograph of some interesting architecture! Nice reflections in the windows of the sky. The angles are very percise.

Well done!

Hello Niek,

This is a very unusual looking building. I was interested so found a few more details of the building.
Click Here. for a link to the site I used to read up on this building.

I like the POV here Niek. you show the structure from an angle giving us a lot of visual information. The subtle underlight is enough to show off the building. You've captured sharp building detail, good colour and handled the exposure well. Well composed and niceley presented.

Hello Niek

Here in Tennessee we do not have such modern buildings in the back woods where I live. Nice capture of This modern work of livible art.
