Welcome to Waimea Canyon. This was actually the first spot on Kauai that I visited many years ago when I fell in love with the island. You have already seen a couple of shots of the Napali Coast from Kalalau which is a viewpoint just above this one as you continue up the long winding road. Since I like to spend as much time at Kalalau as possible I got to this lookout close to sunset. Still thought it was an amazing view of the canyon. Hope you like it. Have a great day!
From Wikipedia:
Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, is a large canyon, approximately ten miles (16 km) long and up to 3,000 feet (900 m) deep, located on the western side of Kauaʻi in the Hawaiian Islands. The canyon was formed by a deep incision of the Waimea River arising from the extreme rainfall on the island's central peak, Mount Waiʻaleʻale, among the wettest places on earth.
Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres (7.5 km²) and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. It can be accessed from Waimea on Hawaiʻi state road 550, which is 18 miles long and leads up to Koke'e State Park. The island of Niihau, only a short distance west of Kauai at that point, can be clearly seen from the highway.

Lori,

A very beuatiful scenic view with good contrast between the sky and the canyon below.

Good Job

Very interesting, I would have never imagine a formation like this in Hawaii. Nicely captured with great pov. Good colors. Well done, tfs.

Please view my workshop on how I would have approached the shot. Take a look at the critique I gave today which had had two points. My removal of certain elements you magnify the impact of each.

Hi Lori,
Great lighting on this Canyon landscape!
Nice color layers with a marvelous dramatic sky overhead!
A considerable depth in this landscape shot.
My best regards,

Hi Lori,
This does look like the grand canyon but with more color....well composed. I like your saturation of colors here, great view. No wonder you fell in love with it. TFS Julie

Lori,

LOVE the clouds in this! what a dramatic scene Lori! On my screen it almost looks like film! Could be a little sharper, maybe it's just my screen! Wonderful colors!

I love the panorama effect of the shot and the depth of colour here. A touch more brightness might be nice and I see you have a workshop to point you in the right direction.

A tip about sharpness -- I have not been able to figure out why, but the web tends to eat up sharpness in our images. I find that it's best to sharpen right before posting to give my images a cleaner look

Great posting

Hi Lori...excellent shot..great tones and colors. When I was in Kona last month I was looking for colors and scenery like this but never found it...nice work.

Hi Lori, I like the vivid colors of this canyon.
In the middle of the day the canyon would be bleached due to the sun. So I think you have been there on the best time of the day.

Regards,

Ilya
