Sorry I am still a bit behind and that my comments have been so brief. Working long hours and I am exhausted. I would prefer to post something more current but I really have to pick through my recent shots since the lighting was horrible and I am not terribly satisfied. I chose to go through the archives and picked out this red footed booby taken from the lookout at the entrance to the Kilauea Light House Wildlife Refuge on Kauai. It is one of my favorite places and one of the few places you can see the red footed booby. They are very aloof and so hard to photograph. Heaven knows I try. I was hanging over a fence to get this shot. This adult is preening after feeding its young. It was a miraculous thing to witness but sadly none of the shots were sharp enough to share since it was getting dark and as a contortionist I couldn't hold the camera and BIG lens steady. So, I settled for this one of the parent alone which was extrememly sharp prior to adjusting the size and uploading. Hope it maintained its clarity and that you enjoy it. Have a great Sunday!
From wikipedia:
The Red-footed Booby is the smallest of all boobies at about 70 centimetres (28 in) in length and with a wingspan of up to 1 metre (3.3 ft). It has red legs, and its bill and throat pouch are coloured pink and blue. This species has several morphs. In the white morph the plumage is mostly white (the head often tinged yellowish) and the flight feathers are black. The black-tailed white morph is similar, but with a black tail, and can easily be confused with the Nazca and Masked Boobies. The brown morph is overall brown. The white-tailed brown morph is similar, but has a white belly, rump, and tail. The white-headed and white-tailed brown morph has a mostly white body, tail and head, and brown wings and back. The morphs commonly breed together, but in most regions one or two morphs predominates; e.g. at the Galápagos Islands, most belong to the brown morph, though the white morph also occurs.
The sexes are similar, and juveniles are brownish with darker wings, and pale pinkish legs, while chicks are covered in dense white down.

Hi Lori,
Good shot of the booby but it is a shame we can not see his red feet, good position in frame, you have more or less critiqued this shot yourself so you know that it's not perfect and what the faults are but you have gotten a great shot off of this bird. Nice one. Best wishes

Hi Lori,
A nice capture of this beautiful white bird with a blue long beak!
Quite a sharp image from the rear while the bird is busy with its plumage.
I like the tight crop.
My best regards,

Il fait sa toilette, superbe image et cpatage de cet oiseau avec son long bec qui se nettoie, ce blanc avc le bec grisbleu ressort à merveille, splendide.

bravo et amitié

Dear Lori,

Quite a nice capture of this lovely bird though I would have seen the picture a bit bigger in size (max. 800 px).
The picture does have certain noise problems and the focus on the eye is soft though, but overall it is a pleasing work. Well managed light as well.

Hi Lori....excellent light and tones...nice work.

Hello Lori :)

The splendid bird in the original formulation.
He pleases me very much, and the dark background emphasises his colours.
The perfect realization with the fantastic effect !

Friendly greetings.
