[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was shot from a tripod, using mirror lockup, remote shutter release, fill flash,3 kenko extension tubes attached to my 50-500mm Os lens. I managed to get within 6 meters of this bird and used the Kenko tubes to gain more magnification lost due to my 500mm lens being only a 350mm lens as most zoom lenses exhibit focal breathing. I was quite pleased with the end result and the amount of work that went into getting this shot right was quite painful but worth it. Minimal cropping to improve composition- and focus was manually done using the Live View mode. Any comments welcome and thanks for viewing.

Hi Dilshan,

This is a very nice nature shot. The off-center composition works well, and the bird's gaze is back into the shot. There's good, sharp focus on the head and eye, and the shallow DOF yielded a nice background. Bird shots at 1/30 shutter are fairly risky, but you pulled this one off!

Werner

Hello Dilshan, you have achieved amazing clarity in this shot.Every detail in colour and texture is wonderful to see, even the catchlight in its' eye.
You say that shooting this was painful, well it was well worth it.
The bokeh is a perfect bg.
Known as the COMMON Kingfisher! But I think 'common' is totally the wrong word!
I have seen these in the U.K. and I always feel lucky to see them.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Dilshan,
A splendid colorful bird with accurate details and a nice pose. A very attentive eye and a lovely composition. An awesome bokeh BG which isolate completely the bird.
Very neat work.

Francis Xavier
