I know it's not a clear shot and I much rather would've shot this in color but I forgot to change my setting, however, I really like the spray from the surf board. I like the action of the shot. Anyway, critique away and enjoy!!

Hello Daniel.

Just because you have an unclear shot, i doesn't mean that the effect of what we see is expected to be bad.
Infact, for me, i do like it, the surfer is negotiating the waves and its expected to be moving so for me the effect works, we cannot expect crisp, clear in all our shots unless we have the right camera, lens and a stroke of luck. I too think the spray behind is good and shows the movement of the surfer.
I think taking a surfer from this distance, it would look good to have the surfer to one side of the photograph
To me he would be good on the right side as he is looking left and hoping to travel left. As present you have him in the middle. Its all personal choice but as you look at more and more photographs here, you will see many boats for instance look balanced if they are one side and travelling in the direction of the opposite side of the photograph. Hope that is of some help. TFS

Hello Daniel

I also like the image. This is really an image of personal taste. The image is half silhouette, half action. I think to see the face as he negotiates the wave would have much improved the image. On the other hand a more defined silhouette would have worked also. I am stuck in the middle on this one. interesting for sure.
