I wanted a door for my first post of the year. This door belongs to a caffé in Alexandria...PASTROUDIS. In his time Cavafys poet use to spend here some part of his days. It is a delicious café. This place has born to me when I read "ALEXANDRIA QUARTET" from Durrell.More than 20 years after I was in Cairo and Alexandria was calling for me. I liked Alexandria, the great line beach and the open caffés. After beeing out at Christmas I spend these days at home, looking photos, cooking,...it is nice to have time for us.
A door can be a start or a ending but never "a kind of I don´t care".
I cropped, I converted in B/W and I use levels to dark the reflections of the door.

Let´s see what is behind the door.

Hi Teresa.

They used to say, 'when one door closes, another slams in yer face'.....but they were joking, well they better had.

A door needs to reflect whats the other side, it needs to show intent...a gateway into another life, another level, another love.

Once again, we are pleasured with an image that gives so much back to the viewer, we glory on the tones on offer, we glimpse at the wisps of reflections shown, but we stop and wonder what does lie behind this door.

A few months back i posted a red door with the number 125, its best left not knowing sometimes to leave the imagination in charge.

A wonderful image from you Teresa to kick start the new year. Long may you entertain.

stv ;o))

HI Teresat...Happy New Year to you. Nice tones and antique feel to this shot...well done.

Roger

Ciao Teresa, what is there behind that door? We hope so happiness for everyone.
Beautiful black and white, magnificent reflection, very well done, my friend, Happy New Year 2013, ciao Silvio

Bonjour Teresat
The black and white gives this door an antique look ...
I like the reflection in the window ... and the lettering is original..nice first 2013 shot..
Regards,Robert :-)

Hi Teresa,

this is the first time i comment one of your photos, despite your images are among those on which my eyes linger the most.Often you have to understand them deep-down.Sometimes i found them slightly pondering, but always extremely fascinating.Sometimes, on the other hand, with a retro style elegant and sophisticated. The use that often you do of B/W, applied to images like this, intensifies the emotional impulse of an image that might otherwise look impersonal to most people.I like very much to look for things' more hidden meanings and your pictures offer me this chance...hoping not to be wrong.

Hi Teresa,
Beautiful artwork in this shot. The POV in itself is artistic. The logo on the glass is doing the composition with the daily life happening in the BG. Good B&W photography of this caffe's door. A nice story in your note.
Well done and my best wishes.

Hi Teresa,
A great one. I like the feeling of "old" in this image. Might have been from 50's.

People hung up on technical features will not like this but I think this is a great image. You have very good ability to capture the mood of a place.

Another strong shot with a great appeal, Teresa!

Great color tones and well caught light on this artwork on the door.
The POV is well caught and exposure is nice too.
Good shot.

Thanks for an informative note and wishing you and your family a Happy New Year too!

Um abracos,
Paras

Hi Teresa.

Superb graphism with good tonal range & sharpness. The slight green color tints add interest and the fuzzy indistinct people in the bg provide a secondary focal point to the text. Tfs!

Bom dia Teresa,

Bonne nuit Teresa

Happy New Year Teresa. A good symbolic shot for the New Year. I hope it opens to a wonderful year for you.
regards
David

Hi Teresa, I like the closeup of the door, was wondering though if you intentionally left out the bottom of the door handle. The top half looks a little like an old newspaper photo. Fiona

What interesting and perhaps not so interesting stories have been told withing this café's walls , the minute one opens that door and closes it back on oneaelf there is another story to be told . Here the door is closed , tempted to push it open well i sure am ! I like the sepia-tinged finish of your image , your trademark as we all know , your treatment sure gives that old feel ambience to it . My compliments Teresa ,
Greetings ,
Carol

Hello Dear Teresa :)

The splendid idea of seizing this monogram, the invoice of letters is very original.
The very interesting composition in colours B/W and their contrast
and good light, I like him very much.
